I found an area that is so good with experience farming that I had to list it here. The area right below High Hedge is perfect for resting as you will get dread wolves which in reality aren't as hard as other stuff out there. The reason is that there's only 1 of them and any lvl 2 party with at least 1 fighter can take it down. Also 650 experience for the creature is a pretty good way of powering up for those lvls listed. If you are lvl 5 and more you will probably need something better. Still I just got 3 lvls for my party, not bad if you ask me.

If your party is up to it (3-4), a great farming area is the cave where Safana's quest ends with the finding of the Tome. Rest in there, and you get Flesh Golems re-spawning for 2000 XP each. That's if you enjoy farming, of course.
Why would you want to farm in a game as great as this? There is plenty of XP as it is - and farming is rather boring.

You are very correct. However seeing as I play with 2 man parties, every lvl I get is crucial and detrimental to survival. When you only have a few characters 2-3, an extra lvl is more worthwhile than a +1 weapon. The weapon's useful but without 8-14 extra health and likely that +1 thaco, its worth more than the weapon. A 5-6 man party is ok for beginning but thats because if everyone's missing, you still have many more chances to hit. I like the small parties as they are 5 times more easy to control without going nuts ;)

If you're going solo, I would think ghasts would be much more attractive xp-wise. They give 650, sometimes drop an item, but best of all, they have a slow speed, allowing you to shoot and run with no danger to yourself.

If you've dual classed a character and want to get back the abilities of the first class asap (or just don't want to wait for hours of play to get them back), it's a great way of doing it.

Perhaps. But it's a rather boring process which takes time. There is plenty to do in the game and lots of XP so I'd rather just keep playing tbh. But people are different and enjoy different things.

For grinding I would think the glitch with the always-spawning golem in the cave is the best, as it gives a lot of XP. Provided you can kill the thing of course. :P

True enough. Easier to just use the console and give the character the XP outright. Heh, but somehow that seems so much worse than grinding.
Grinding in BG1?

My group seems to be overpowered as it is already, and when playing BG1 normally, just doing the quests I come across and exploring all area's, my party often raises quite far above the XP Cap. More than enough to get an extra level, sometimes even two, than what the XP Cap would allow.
I tend to not have any problems leveling anymore, since I've started playing with just Imoen for the first few chapters. I didn't even pick up anyone else until I hit the Cloakwood Mines in my most recent game, and that's after I explored everything I could reach besides the TotSC areas. Yay for kiting!
