I was doing the Canon Party. However, I multi-class Imoen to Mage at L5.
Want my thief back, so I decided to try splitting the Party at Friendly Arms then go the Ankheg page with Imoen and a couple tanks to up her experience. (Don't know if it is considered legit, but I want my Thief back).

Now Minsc and Dynaheir co-operate and stay in the Friendly Arms to pick up later.
But I tried Jaheira and khalid. They disappear.
(I can remove one, but the other stays which I didn't think was possible, but may be part of the Mods installed.)
Question: Is there any way other than a Basilisk to remove these two and get them back later?
If I "reform" the party at another location maybe?

Well, took them to a room in the Castle Area of the Friendly Arms, but not the Tavern.
And they stay there.
So I have my answer.

Without mods, Jaheira and Khalid will disappear (for good) from the Friendly Arm Inn ground floor interior (it's area scripted) if you leave them there. It's story related: they need to see the mayor of Nashkel. This is why you were able to retrieve them from the exterior but not the tavern.

So I took them to the one place temporarily leaving them wouldn't work. LOL.
But your explanation makes perfect sense.
