For games I've been posting pretty much just here and one other forum. That other forum though has been completely taken over by the "OMG SJWs!!!" stuff. Whether you agree with one side or the other of that "war" or not, I just don't want it taking over the entire conversation about literally everything. Like I'm trying to discuss the coming RPG The Outer Worlds and all anyone is talking about is SJW stuff, not the game at all.

GOG forum is fun and I'm not leaving, but it's not a popular place to discuss new games in depth. Is there a forum out there I could replace the other one with, that lets me discuss new games with a relatively large group of people and without it being taken over by constant social war stuff? I only play on PC and mostly play RPGs, but also FPS games and point and click adventures, if that matters.

Thanks for any tips.

I know what you mean, political views get thrown into the conversations on the forums WAY too much. Sadly, even if you state you want nothing to do with it, there's always the one person that goes ranting about how you not wanting to talk about it means you're against them.

I don't mind discussing politics, a lot of RPGs have political themes. But yeah, when politics (especially social war politics) are all ANYONE talks about, with most of it being super overdramatic, I can't take it.
It's not only gaming, it corrodes literally everything in society. Everything "needs" to be political now.

The worst part is, both sides of the identity politics seem to think they have something new and interesting to say, but they don't. They just parrot what they hear from their respective ideologists and news sources like mindless drones while slamming the "dumb people" on the other side for doing just that.

No, you don't fight for a noble cause or see some truth that others don't, you just parrot easily digested talking points to follow your group narrative. It doesn't contribute to anything, it just hijacks every discussion so that we have to participate in the same tired discussion over and over again.

/End of rant.

Well, after Neogaf dumped their worst into ResetEra, they've calmed down. (Mostly.)

There's r/games, and I might know of a place, but you'd have to learn a special knock and ask with a fellow.

Generally speaking however, many forums have been outmoded by places like DIscord, leaving only a few to remain; even SomethingAwful had the creator snap, but that reminds me of the lp.zone.

Yeah, kind of a tangent for my question but I agree 100%. Most of the discussion isn't even interesting or intellectually deep, it's just endless whining about your side's dogma. It's so pointless and annoying. I don't have a "side" in this "war," my views depend on the context and situation and are usually in the grey area, and there's no room for that right now.

Anyway, I know there's no forum out there without these issues, but one where it's not 24/7 would be nice.

What about magog, or is that what you're trying to get away from?

StingingVelvet: snip
Funny coincidence. Just yesterday, I returned to a forum that I had regularily frequented in the past, but which then was drowned in "political debates" and "you're no real gamer, if you don't like exactly what I like!!!" - rubbish.

Well, let me tell you - nothing has changed there. If anything, it has gotten even worse over the three years I was absent.
I decided that my decision to leave it was correct, and that I will stay away.

So - I wish you the best of luck in finding the holy grail of gaming discussions forum.

One advice though: If you ever find it - don't tell anyone. Or it will be in ruins the week after that.

Never heard of it, will google later. Thanks for suggesting something.
I wonder if Usenet newsgroups (comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.rpg and such) are still alive and well? Ah the good old times, not caring about moderators etc. and not having to decide in which web page forum to discuss. If you wanted to discuss about PC RPGs, that was the one and only(?) English-speaking newsgroup for it.

I know it's a biblical thing, but I can't hear the word Magog without thinking of Andromeda (the TV show). ;-)

Looks mostly like archives at this point; fact of the matter is, I'm pretty sure most of Usenet is either archives or defunct.

I think Reddit is kind of the new version of this, but I hate the Reddit interface.

Someone mentioning Discord above made me finally give it a go and it seems alright but the game forums I checked were pretty slow. The game I'm playing now, Greedfall, is a pretty new release and yet there were like ten posts from the last 5 days.

It's sad, but most of the big players from the 90's have shut down, by now it seems to mostly be paid services for sharing binaries (where cost is linked to a download limit). A couple free no-bin ones exist, but those seem to have a limited history, only saving messages for a few months.

I'd love to find a decent Usenet service again, but I guess they're closer to death than Gopher and BBS.

I mean BBS at least is easy to set up. I've heard of gopher but never witnessed it, but even IRC is more alive than Usenet.
