If you contact support, they will be able to change it for you.

http://www.gog.com/support

EDIT: Full path: click "support" tab, choose "contact us", select "problems with website and user accounts and GOG Galaxy", then the drop down menu for problem type has "username (nickname) change" which should route it perfectly for support to be able to quickly help.

You have to contact support and ask them to change it for you. Shouldn't be a big problem.

Others have already answered, but one thing to add. Make sure that the new nickname you choose does not have an underscore, hyphen or any other non-alphanumeric character. Trust me on this one. It'll likely save you some heartache later on.

It does? Why is that? If you are talking about the chat thread, using the old nick should still work. So it's a db problem, not a username one.

But it seems to affect only people with new nicknames containing underscores, or doesn't it?

No idea. I guess one could check it with Gr00t/Coelocanth to verify it, I just know that while painted_doll doesn't work, ne_zavarj does.

Having to remember the url for the old username and hand it out to those wanting to communicate privately with them defeats the purpose of changing said username, doesn't it?

Either way, using the old username is not an acceptable solution or reasonable workaround - sending a PM to a user and/or viewing their public wishlist, whether they've changed their username or not, should not require anything more than hovering over said user's avatar and selecting the corresponding option.
Since special characters are allowed in usernames, users that want to change their username are not obliged to know, or even take into consideration, that GOG may have a db problem that breaks some site features if the new username contains any.

Whether this is a problem with special characters on the db level, or GOG just neglected to update their db for some users (and I hope that this is not done manually), they should look into this problem and fix it.

Of course they should. I just said that it seems to be a db problem, not a username one. So if someone wishes to change to a new username that contains an underscore, they can do so, and GOG should fix their db to properly parse the changes.
I have asked support to change it.
Thanx everyone for help :)
