Hello GOG Community,

We have some heart-breaking news to share: Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft II will be leaving the GOG store on December 13th, 2024.

As many of you know, at GOG, we believe that games should live forever. It’s not just about preserving them—it’s about making sure these timeless classics remain accessible, updated, and playable on modern systems. That’s exactly what the GOG Preservation Program was created for. But, even with our best efforts and dedication to game preservation, sometimes things don’t go as we’d hoped.

Seeing these masterpieces leave our store is tough, but it also serves as another reminder of why our mission at GOG is so important. With that in mind, we’ve decided to update one aspect of the GOG Preservation Program’s policy:

Going forward, even if a game is no longer available for sale on GOG, as part of the GOG Preservation Program, it will continue to be maintained and updated by us, ensuring it remains compatible with modern and future systems.

We're incredibly proud of our work on both Warcraft: Orcs and Humans and Warcraft II, bringing them back to life after decades of unavailability and introducing several improvements to ensure the best possible experience, as close to the original as possible.

Although we’ll soon no longer be able to offer these games in our store, anyone who purchased them before they were removed will still enjoy the most compatible, high-quality versions, guaranteed by the GOG Preservation Program.

And because GOG is DRM-free, you’ll have lifetime access to your Offline Installers. That means, even though these games are being delisted, you’ll still have them safely stored in your library forever, ready to play whenever you want. This is what these titles—and you as gamers—deserve.

To all of you who support our mission of preserving video game history—thank you. It’s not just about the games themselves; it’s about the journey we’ve all shared as gamers. We’re honored to continue this journey with you.

With appreciation,
The GOG Team

Please note:
If you want to buy the Warcraft I & II Bundle and keep them forever in your library, you can use the checkout code: MakeWarcraftLiveForever

Each user can only use the code once.
This is way more complicated than that, yet indeed... if it comes to genders it totally depends on the game how much of participation... finally gamers... we may have. Fantasy is in general a genre with a lot of women and space shooters or shooters in general with a high amount of males. Some genres are "in between"... so at a average level.

BlueTemplar: What is the point of engaging in «gamer taxonomy» ??
It will describe someone who is not just "playing with it" but feels sufficiently experienced and safe playing a game... simply way more than just "by accident trying out a game" because some room mate was as well playing it... but after all "barely can hold a gamepad properly".

However... what it truly means is as always different with any person. Someone may consider themself a "geek" as soon as they own a PC with a dedicated graphic card (the most extreme case i experienced was a woman who was using a PS4 and was considering herself a geek doing so) and some other person may only use this word if they at least got the overpriced flagship of a Nvidia card, along with a oversized board and nearly 1000 games in their shelf... with a lot of physical discs as well.

In the end a person is not automatically a gamer and a human not automatically a worker... unless they do some serious or sufficient work.

The whole point simply is, so we can see the "bigger picture" and how it looks related to "playing games" in the entire society.

Identities are problematic.
(For liberal democracies in particular, where you're supposed to have 'citizen' as your main identity, and not supposed to care much about other identities you or others might have.)

We are what we do (or fail to do) :
You play a game = you're a gamer.
You've never played any game = you've never been a gamer.

This also sounds very much like a «no true Scotsman» fallacy.

Swedrami: Diablo (& Hellfire) should be safe, for now at least(?).
Unless a Resurrected-like remaster has already been in the works and is going to be announced/released soon™.
Probably on Diablo's anniversary in...2026, I believe?

It is okay having such a identity but without sufficient competence related to this "taxonomy" it is simply not enough for me... i am sorry. Perhaps for some people or groups it is enough already... We can consider it the freedom of choice and at least consider everyones perception, considering feelings and identities, as "sufficient" in order to accept it. However, in order to get my full respect... as a whole, i do demand sufficient competence.

BlueTemplar: Identities are problematic.
A lot of stuff can become problematic if the heart is full of falsehood and poisoning the mind. A identity by itself is not a issue, nor is it wrong, as long as it is not used in a abusive and destructive way.

Today's inclusive Blizzard has nothing to do with the company that once gave us Warcraft 3 and Starcraft 2. For many years, no one expects anything from them. This company will never create a single normal single-player story game. They forgot how to do it a long time ago - when they drove away all the key developers (founders of Blizzard) and put sexual minorities and all sorts of perverts at the forefront... Today, it's yet another inclusive woke company that has bowed to sexual minorities (who don't even play games, but just whine on Twitter about genders and skin color). This company has inflated to an indecent size, but they are unable to create a new good game - an awesome, single-player game with a great storyline. They simply can't.

Moreover, they are so greedy that they can't even release their old (classic) version of Warcraft 3 on GOG. It's no secret that their new Warcraft 3: Refunded has been an absolute failure. Most Warcraft fans still prefer to play the old version of the game. But Blizzard doesn't care about gamers. And as for GOG users, they are treated as second-class citizens. Warcraft 1 and 2 hold little value. Everyone wants to play Warcraft 3, preferably the classic version. But the greedy Blizzard continues to go against gamers... When will we see the "good old Blizzard" that listens to gamers and gives them what they want?

lord_mendes: diarrhea of the mouth syndrome
Yup, it surely must have been the wokeness that killed off Blizzard's greatness! *rolls eyes so hard they fall out of their sockets* They were on a downward trend loooong before any of their dirty laundry got aired. It pretty much started with them being gobbled up by Activision.
It is probably important to look at this in order to understand Blizzards behaviour:

So... yes, i even see Warcraft 1+2 at a great risk somewhere in the future because they may think "if the get ride of the original source the people will buy their supreme version... non stop". I could never have guessed it because i just lack the required "evil intent" in order to even guess such an "outcome".

The original version is no longer sold digitally as of November 2018 in favor of the remaster.
If a retail copy is already owned, access to the classic version of Warcraft III: Reforged (which allows access to the original Reign of Chaos and The Frozen Throne campaign content as well as Reforged multiplayer) can be gained for free by entering the serial key here on Battle.net and then downloading the installer from here; this will install the Battle.net App in order to download the Warcraft III: Reforged client.
Installers for non-Reforged versions are no longer available from Blizzard.

The original version of the game is no longer available digitally nor can it access the Battle.net multiplayer service, as it was replaced entirely by Reforged. As there are significant changes between the two and valid reasons to keep using the retail version, this article retains relevant information for users of these builds.

At least nothing "personal": GOG is just a nobody to them and they want to lure customers with full attention to their supreme version now, it seems.

Warcraft 1+2 could totally fade at some point and online services being shutted down. In theory private servers are possible but they may face issues with the law. It is probably better for those games and the gamers just to dispossess the copyright holders and let some stores who may offer to "support it for free" continuing its preservation. I think this is the time i really doubt "how useful" the current politics really is related to the benefits for all of us. I guess the creators of the "originals" are kinda sad... seeing what is happening here with their work.

Normally i would never say something that critical about, but seeing what is actually happening here is a shock to me.

LevityInGaming: It wasn't in reference to simping vs pitchforks, either. It was more in reference to people on here who personally attack each other at the drop of a hat, because they mistakenly feel they have complete anonymity being on the internet.
I now getting what you mean. Yes many are being like this but if nothings else it be more real in some ways than sweet words of placation and praising we see also on the web. Live laughing love and have a good day.

You have to get the worthless bundle for the worthless 2$ discount, or nothing.

Since the news post has now dropped off the front page (and the "ad" for the bundle in the front-page carousel doesn't even mention the upcoming delisting), it would probably be best to sticky this forum thread for now, per the usual practice with the normal forum delisting notices. : )

it is the same Blizzard who made Starcraft 2. Also you forgot that at non-US release SC2 require paid subscription to play even single-player.
