Solei: "But before i decide to support or buy anything, i would like to know if you are planning any versions of the game and expansions that -once downloaded- is able to
install and run on a machine that is offline?"
That was one of the questions i mailed to Crate. This and the fact he wrote they might distribute through gog is, as i see it a guarantee that it is going to be truly drm-free.
But your concern is valid, and i'm thinking of writing to crate again, to make sure that the game will come in a 100 percent steam, etc. free variant.
oldschool: Thanks, please keep us updated. I been following this project for some time now. If they bring it to this site then my decision will easy.
Good news,
Now i got the reply from Arthur Bruno at Crate Entertainment:

Hi,
Steam is totally optional. As it says on the KS page, you can download it directly from us and don't have to bother with Steam at all. Some people hate Steam and I actually used to be one of them but some fans love it and wanted to make sure we release on it. Steam exists for those people.
Another thing to realize though is that Steam offers different levels of DRM to publishers / developers and it is optional what you enable for your game. If you don't enable any DMR with Steam, then Steam is just a way to pay for, download the game and get updates. Steam also provides various services players enjoy and it does offer multiplayer match-making. You don't even have to run Steam to play the game in that case.
I'm not trying to sell Steam or any other service, we actually make significantly more money if you buy directly from us instead of through Steam or GoG. I'm just trying to explain that our purpose in providing it as an option is by player request, not because we're trying to control the way people use the game at all. It would make no sense to offer a totally DRM free, direct download from our website and then have a version on Steam with DRM.
You can play the game single player with no internet connection or anything else required and you play LAN. However, we can't afford to build our own multiplayer match-making system, so we have to rely on other providers, which is part of the reason we're planning to release on Steam. I don't know if GoG provides that service but I know there are some other companies out there that do if people want to play multiplayer on the internet but don't want to install Steam.
Hope that answers your question.
Best,
Arthur

I do not think you gentlemen can get a more thorough answer than that. The software comes in a totally steam independant version too.
Now head over to kickstarter and pledge some more ;)
