I'm working on a game. You may read about it in this post over here as I am far to lazy to retype all that stuff.

Any opinions?

Thanks for Master of orion 1+2!

I shall check out your game soon.

EDIT: I've seen the pics, and it's interesting. The fact that you've been able to code together something is great. I could never have managed something like that.

How long is your game?

Looks bloody :D And the sort of graphics is unique and sometimes soul of a little game. Not all good ones have to be with most modern and drawn graphics. I like the shots :) Also thank you for Elven Legacy (was tempted to take all but decided to let the others have it ;) )

It is still very early in development and is only 2 floors long, although the second floor has two out of a planned four layouts available.

The basic game play elements are in place though aside from the minion summoning, I want opinions of the mechanics now though since it's easier to tweak things early on.

Ok, i just tried it.

First of all, would it be possible to change the crosshair to red? White on a white background makes it hard to see where to aim, making a lot of shots go in the wrong direction.

Secondly, is it an action game, or an rpg? With what seems like re-spawning enemies, there is no time for item management at all.
Thanks and +1 for your generosity, ThatNinjaGuy!

Sadly, the link is blocked in this public PC. Do you have a youtube video related to the game, by chance?

In any case, kudos for your effort and good luck on your endeavor!

In regards to your game, would it be possible to make the lines that make up the characters a bit wider? Currently it looks like it might be hard to spot characters who stand in exceptionally bloody areas.

Somewhere in between, the game was inspired by Gauntlet after all.

The extent of inventory management is deciding when to drink a potion. All other items are either upgrades that get applied immediately or vendor trash that is immediately added to your gold total.

Oh and the re-spawning enemies means that there's a spawner nearby, destroy it and it'll cut off their reinforcements.

I'd noticed that, I'm actually experimenting with ways to make the characters stand out more.

Maybe I should just make the gore fade away after a bit? As much as I like my games gory I shouldn't let it get in the way of gameplay.

One thing i thought now: The red crosshair might conflict with the amount of red blood on the screen. Perhaps a blue crosshair (or any other colour that won't conflict with the rest of the screen).

Well the game is mostly black and white, picking a good color shouldn't be too hard.

It's just a small detail, but it should make aiming a lot easier to distinguish. The blood spray effect is cool by the way. Who knows what can be achieved with this game. I'm not sure if dialogue could be added at some stage....?

I did plan on having the main character be an insane violent psychopath, obsessed with what he considers to be "heroic". (I'm still debating on whether the enemies have actually done something bad or if the main character just thinks they have.)

Oh and a Gauntlet style narrator to say the occasional hint or warning.

This is interesting, and it's awesome to see something at the beginning of development. Obviously you have the power to implement and change things at any given time.

It doesn't have to have an in depth story, but with something like Legend of grimrock it was just a brief introduction to what the setting was all about basically.

If you need any ideas or help, i'm sure there are people here who could help. There is a group of devs that want to make a game: http://www.gog.com/forum/general/anyone_want_to_help_me_make_a_random_indie_team_for_fun/page1

Perhaps some sort of collaboration could be possible if you felt the need for it.

I would have him flip over something trivial. Having him snap out of nowhere feels off, but declaring all enemies to be bad feels rather dull. He gets tipped off, rampages, everyone does try to hold him pack but he interprets their actions as proof of them conspiring for the sake of their evil plot.
