Crosmando: "gaming" ones don't have anything beyond some neon-lights and some extra assignable buttons which you'll never use
He said that he plays MMOs and MMO players use those programmable keys A LOT. And dude, you're like some grumpy old man who hates everything and everyone. Let some people enjoy stuff, will ya.

Once I got a mechanical keyboard I was able to play much more comfortably. It does take some getting used to, but for something that I use 8+ hours every day (work and play), I think the investment is worth it. You only get one set of hands.

I use Matias Quiet Pro, which uses a modified version of ALPS switches, but is definitely on the quiet end of mechanical keyboards. The other kind I looked at was Cherry Brown or Red switches, which can also be made fairly quiet by proper typing and O-rings.

wut
Gaming keyboards are very expensive, you can't really argue that, the manufacturers love to put "gaming" in front of peripheries and then charge a bucketload. I mean paying up to $100 for a keyboard now? And also I'm not exactly old, I just got grumpy earlier in life :/

Well, if you're passionate about something... In my case it would also be ridiculous to pay more than 30 max 40 bucks for a keyboard but if someone's favourite games are MMOs or multiplayer shooters it might be a legitimate purchase. I also bought a joystick recently, a cheap one, and am actually planning to get a rather expensive one eventually just because I *love* space sims. The more expensive ones' features don't seem to justify the price but heck, for a guy who's passionate about this kind of stuff it's still a legitimate purchase so I wouldn't judge others for spending so much money on peripherals.
