Dear folks,
ok after testing some hours, here you get any information running the game (in English) in Windows 10 with all updates:
1. Download and install GoG version (you will get the 1.69 version compiled by GOG)
2. Optional: Download and install the correct 1.69 version from here: neverwintervault.org (sorry, I am not allowed to post links, so you have to search these files).
3. Optional: Download and install the 1.71 (final) patch from neverwintervault.org
4. Open the local installation directory (something like C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\NWN Diamond) and change "Compability" settings for "nwmain.exe" to "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)". The link within GoG will still not work, you have to start the game directly here.
5. Open "nwconfig.exe" and change the video resultion to everything you like and your monitor supports. On all modern computers you should be able to use "64meg Texture pack" and "Best Video Quality".
6. To watch the movies between the scenes, open the "nwn.ini" with the "notepad" and change to SafeMovie=1 (before it read SafeMovie=0). You still won't be able to replay the movie via the nwn menu, however, you can watch the moviews once. If you want to watch the movies again (and in full-screen), go in the movies directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\NWN Diamond\movies) and open the bik-files with the "Media Player Classic" (search the internet for installation).
7. For everyone still having issues, you may try to remove these files from the "miles" directory (C:\Program Files (x86)\GOG Galaxy\Games\NWN Diamond\miles\): Mssa3d.m3d, mssds3d.m3d, Msseax.m3d, msssoft.m3d).
And now have fun!!
8. Last tip: Use the "tab" key to show all objects and characters you can interact with!
BTW I really like GOG, however, it is not clear to me, why they distribute configurations, not working on current OS, flawlessly, and with latest patches.
