Your post is lacking in information about the problem, and you haven't even included your system specs and other such basics.

Anyway, first thought that strikes me if an application suddenly freezes up, is overheating in the computer, such as the GPU. Usually, the computer automatically reboots in that case, however. Have you checked what temperatures your components reach when playing games?
i think ill have to check that ... ill start the witcher 2 n check what the temperatures are .. n my system specs are : e7500 @ 2.93ghz core 2duo , 4gb ram , 9800 gt

n im playing on medium settings ... ive had the game since its relase day ... n this problem started from yesterday n it has happened twice now ...

Did you install the latest version of the Nvidia drivers recently, by chance? Some users have reported problems with the new release - 280.26 - and claim anything from minor or major stuttering, to instability and even severe overheating of the graphics card,as a result of this update. Link

Hmm... yeah, the temperatures seem normal, so it can't be that. I'm still willing to suspect the new drivers to be the culprit, since there have been other reports on this from other sources; if so, you might want to try rolling them back, to see if it helps. If not, I'm fresh out of ideas, I'm afraid. :(
Try another driver as suggested.

If that fails, perform a clean boot and run the game.
yep so i rolled back to previous driver ... n i think the problem has been fixed ... saw a little increase in fps too ... i guess it was the driver then ... thanx
