Finally beat that big octopus and looted everything I could. However, there's a body of a man and a sheep over to the left of the kayren (oriented from where you enter the area). When you use the 'Z' key, it highlights and when you walk over to it, you get the icon to LMB to search. However, no amount of clicking from any angle I approached would allow me to search the bodies. Anyone else have this issue?

If you've successfully searched the bodies, can you tell me what's on them (anything important)?

As well, there's a 'pod' (something similar to the endrega pods) in that area which also glows when using the 'Z' key, but I can't seem to find any way to search/loot/interact with it. This just another one of those non-interactables in the game?

the pod is the thing you search with Triss to get the mucous sample earlier in the quest. As for the bodies...could be related to the shipwreck quest. Which may not even trigger if you do not search the wreck before the fight.

Ah, I wasn't there before the fight. Searched the ship after and found the key and the documents and got that mail drop quest in my journal.

Glitch then, maybe fixed in tomorrow's patch? BTW I never thought you could complete the battle without scouting it out first. Good thing you didn't let it spit on you. Without the anti tox potion Triss gives the recipe for it would likely have been death.

Okay, color me embarrassed. I was there with Triss, I guess, since I remember collecting mucus with her. I made the anti-venom potion and used it for the battle.
The body is just a sort of an easter egg, relating to one of old Polish legends.
Darn, I was hoping that they would give us that much rope to hang ourselves with. then again we are playing as Geralt and he is a pro and pros do their homework.

Thanks

OK now I recall seeing the bodies there myself and Geralt also commented on them. In this case the trick didn't work. poor Guy.

Wow, was that a Whoosh moment for me. Geralt said something about the goat(?) not being enough for the Kayran but not being Polish I totally missed the significance. Now I'm wondering what else I'm missing :)

I actually paused and thought about it but, yeah, I didn't know that legend and it never occurred to me to search for a matching one. I just thought it was an odd comment.

Thanks for the heads up on that. :)
If I am not mistaken it is also a reference to one of the Witcher short stories, which has a similar instance of the Polish legend.
Both the pod and the body are 'looted' during the quest to the kayren mucus. The pod is where you gather the mucus and if you find the body Geralt will mention something about how a sheep stuffed with something didnt work: which I guess is what the Polish myth is. There is no loot in either place.
