I've been getting my ass handed by wraiths in two separate level six quests I am attempting right now. I am a level ten at the time too. One or two wraiths I can handle, but the problem happens when I encounter three or more. Part of the wraiths maneuvers is to disappear and reappear near you and immediately strike you. This is fine when it is just one or two wraiths I can anticipate the attack and dodge. But when it is three or more, I will dodge the first disappearing attack, then right as I come out of dodge, another wraith will appear right where I come out of the dodge and attack me. I get stuck in the knock-back animation while another reappears, attacks, restarting the knock-back animation. This chains till I am dead within five seconds even with a full health bar.

Anyone have some tricks other than Spectre oil, quen, and yrden? One of these level six quests is a story line, and it makes me start a whole lengthy section, including cinematics, over from the beginning each time because it won't let me save between each wave of wraiths.

I'm also trying to figure out too if spectres have an attack that instantly drains you down to one hitpoint. There are a few times I swear I have a full health bar, then all of a sudden I randomly die. This happens with any spectre, high or low level, that I have encountered.

I noted where one spawns and jumped on it right away. I kept food and water both equipped to stack their effects, and used potion(s) from inventory. Specifically, I bought the Alchemy skill that slows time when mobs counter attack while I am toxic. This helped. It's just a cramped space and rolling gets you caught up on the environment. It took some tries for sure. Lost count. The stagger was real, have to hope for some good 'RNG' and dodges. You can probably keep parry up as well. Never stand still lol, it felt cheap at first, but when you do get it, you'll get them goose bumps and a sense of relief.

Easy. Place the (Yrden?) the trap-sigil and wait until the wraiths get affected. Then proceed to mow them down with your silver sword, since they're taking increased damage when trapped. Pretty easy, tbh. Also either learn when to dodge or shield yourself to prevent getting hit when they materialize next to you.

Specter oil also helps.
Happy hunting!

I would say mostly the trick is patience during the fight. You wants to use Yrden to slow them down when they lunge and attack. When they do that slip back or to the side and go in for a 2-3 quick strikes or a strong attack if you can time it right. When they disappear don;t stop moving. Keep dodging around until they come back then set up a trap again. You can use spectre oil but early on it is kind of weak till you build it up in your skill tree. a simple attack power potion is more useful early on i have found.

When fighting the more powerful contract ones it's very important to be patient but also make sure when it splits into 3 wraiths to get them down ASAP to avoid it healing back to full.
also don't forget that using Aard you can hit multiple targets & stagger/stun them for a short time giving you the opportunity to attack & quickly roll away

I found them tricky in larger groups as well, though not only wraiths. Water Hag + drowners was also a tough group for me for a while.

Here is how I did it:
Alternate Yrden takes care of surprise attacks. Wraith popping up and knocking on your pooper? Zapped into recoil.Take the opportunity to attack it. Next wraith gunning for your derriere? He gets zapped while you bugger up the first. Too many still? Axii away and leave alone while you deal with the rest (Haven't needed to do this myself yet).

Water hag with drowners? Alternate Yrden for the drowners (if necessary), Axii on the hag. Then *leave* the hag stunned and deal with the drowners. Once only the moist hag remains it's much much easier to skedoosh her.
If you are talking about wraths that appear in Barons quest when he spoiler spoiler to spoiler spoiler
I believe you do not even need irden to damage them. just constantly roll until you find a right moment to damage them. Also I started this fight far away from baron so i had more time to damage one before others arrive.

[spoiler] Yeah that's the one. I can't tell if yrden does much, but it sure isn't necessary here to at least to make them coporeal. Another part of the problem with this fight is that the one of the fighting areas here is congested with static objects. I sure am rolling alot, but tend to roll myself into a corner or up against a tiny fence. If not, they still somehow pop up right where I roll to. I am going to just level up a bit more and find a way to get more vitality to act as a buffer when I am mobbed.

Someone mentioned the alckemy skill that slows time. That sounds like it will help too if I find it.
I'd recommend general skill that allows you to cast signs in exchange for adrenaline. allows you to use quen shield 2 times more often if you damage a lot, or have up to 4 shields in critical situations

Specter oil + Yrden ( circle that slows ) = makes it pretty easy or well to me it does ( playing on Death march )
I improved my fights against wraiths once I upgraded my swords. Also it helps to draw them to the edge of their zone and fight one at a time.
Yrden use yrden.
It's really very simple: use Yrden and stay inside the trap. Of course, wraith oil and silver sword are no brainers. It doesn't come any easier than that.

I find that staying in the Yrden trap while attacking is virtually impossible. Geralt has a lot of forward momentum in attack chains. However the standard wraiths don't really need Yrden that much, they can be spam attacked to death outside the trap.

The quest wraiths(noonwraith, jenny in the woods, possibly more) however have Yrden as an absolute requirement.
