Greetings : )
So I'm super excited to be playing BG 1 again (it's been years since I lost my discs, and couldn't find anymore...)
I installed it, and launched it, and all seemed to be working well... except I don't have audio in the videos, and don't seem to have any background music in-game either (I get sounds from NPC's, and interactions, but no looping background noise...)
Also, I can't check "Environmental Audio".... I'm redownloading Creative Lab's Alchemy app (for my creative card) now just in case that's it, but any other ideas in the meantime (slow download from them) are welcome : )

Hmmm, making "new post" just adds to existing ones apparently? wierd : )
Since this is forcing me into an edit, I'm going to specify that's what this is lol:

*Update*
Well, I got Alchemy redownloaded, and added Baldurs gate into the list with the default options selected....

I now have audio in the opening screens : )

For some reason, I could have sworn that there was background music in Candlekeep, but I might be mistaken (bad memory sometimes)... if there is supposed to be, then that's not working since I left my guy idle for about 2 minutes and nothing started playing.... Going to play without that music for now, and hopefully it just starts a bit later or something : )
If I am missing something though, and anyone knows how to fix it, please let me know! : )

Do you have background music when in an inn or in a fight? Then everything should be fine.
I think there isn't a constant music loop so sometimes it's possible that it's just you and your footsteps and the wind... ;)
Having just started a new game of BG, I also noticed a lack of music, even inside the Inn. However, being my first game (not counting the demo I played years ago), I wasn't sure if there was any music that was supposed to play.

However, when I turned off Fullscreen (Graphics Options), I suddenly had background music playing as I was wandering around the landscape. o_O

I guess, in my case at least, having the game on Fullscreen cancels out the music (though other sounds and voices still play, near as I can tell), but going in windowed mode lets the tunes flow. <_<

Edit: Okay, playing with it, I see that background music won't play at all, regardless of whether I'm in fullscreen or windowed, but if I change it once I start a game, even if I then switch back, the music plays...

Edit2: ... until I zone to another area, at which point the music cuts out again. Switching fullscreen/windowed mode turns the music back on, though. >_>;;

Send your findings to GOG support. Maybe they'll be able to fix it?
Just an update.... so for some reason, if I would activate Baldurs gate in Alchemy, I'd have the sounds for keep life, and movies, but suddenly had barely perceptible audio for button clicking (I had to crank my speaker system and my headphones just to barely detect it)...

Without the game selected in alchemy, I had interaction noises, but all movies and background sounds were super faint instead...

It was very frustrating lol.... anyway, I went into my audio control panel, changed my speaker setup from 5.1 to headphones, then back again and now I hear all sounds at normal volume levels with or without it selected in Alchemy, though I can only select environmental audio if it's activated in Alchemy of course : )

So anyway, guess the issue was with my sound driver : )
