My main concern about buying games from this site is whether or not mods will be compatible. Steam releases different "Steam-friendly" versions on their games that prove themselves to be incompatible with a lot of popular mods. Is GOG the same, or is the version we download here the same as the CD version?
They're mod friendly. At least, all the ones I've tried modding are:

Baldur's Gate series
Icewind Dale series
Temple of Elemental Evil
Neverwinter Nights
Fallout 1
Fallout 2
Planescape:Torment
Divine Divinity (widescreen mod)
Witcher 1
Witcher 2
There are even some GOGmixes (lists of games) highlighting interestingly modded games. If I knew how to search GOGmixes I'd link one for you.

I play Freespace 2 and Baldur's Gate I + II (which I purchased here at GOG) heavily modded. This works painlessly. il-2 sTURMOVIK WORKS WITH MODS. The Red Baron pack is supposed to have good mods too. Modding communities are active still for these games. And there's good support to be had on these forums.

In that case this is now one of my favorite sites. A lot of these games are damn hard to find, and most of my older CD's are scratched to Hell.

Thanks a ton guys.
The only mod bg mod i would even consider might run into problems would be the BG-TOB extender, and that's because it modifies the exe - which for GOG is modified for no-cd, unlike the disc-based retail version. All the remaining mods modify game resources, which are the same between the gog version and disc-based.

edit: i think...
