Alright so I have the CD version of Baldur's Gate 1, and the GOG version of Baldur's Gate 2. I recently beat BG1 and wanted to import my character into BG2. I exported my character, found the BG1 file, copied my character, and went to find the Characters file for BG2. Only problem is, it isn't there. I am in (User)>AppData>Local>VirtualStore>Program Files (x86) > GOG.com > Baldur's Gate 2, and the only folders are as follows: cache, save, temp and tempsave. There's also the Baldur.err, baldur, and Baldur files. I looked through all the folders, and there isn't any character folder for me to put my BG1 character in.

I am running it on Windows 7, and any help would be greatly appreciated.

Make sure you have show hidden files enabled

I do have hidden files enabled, that was the only way that I could see AppData. The Characters folder for BG2 still doesn't show up.
So nobody knows what to do?
Never mind guys, I figured out a different method. Instead of pasting an exported character into the BG2 character file, I just took the final save and pasted it into the BG2 save file, and used that to import.
Actually, the characters folder is located in the installation path (for me /program files/GOG.com/Baldurs Gate II/characters/)

Don't know if it works putting your exported character there though. I forgot to export mine so I did what you did and imported it from my save file.
I know you've found a solution, but try exporting a character from within BG2. This should create the directory where you expected to find it.
nevermind, im a herp-derp
