A new interview with Trent Oster focusing on BGEE is out. I don't think there's any new info in it, but a couple of things have been confirmed, and others talked about in detail:

yuri102020: My guess is to see where it goes who knows that they will found out that the engine that they are using sux and then they will switch over to another one...

And then it will become something better than a enhanced version...lets hope...
You sir are a troll.

Trent Oster is NOT Bioware's Co-Founder, but a Game Director or something.

The infinity engine was lost to bioware - I got that from the GemRB developers. We can only assume that Trent Oster got his hands on a personal backup. And no, the engine isn't shitty, it's perfectly fine. It just needs a bit of cleaning here and there. Most of their work is to make the engine working on modern OS, and that's not a big overhaul like using new rulesets...

Um, regardless of his actual title, he was one of the six people on board when they formed the company, according to him. That makes him a co-founder in my book, and besides, the games he has worked on speak for themselves. I think this project is in good hands.
We will see because the engine they used are old but need revamping though its not a totally lost and i wasn't saying how bad it was...

Yeah, he seems quite competent and I'm looking forward to the enhanced edition. However, being "one of the firsts" doesn't make him a co-founder. I mean, not legally.
There isn't much conspiracy, imo.
Some BioWare employees liked their old creations more than the new ones. Just compare the newest BioWare titles with the old ones, or even NWN.
The trend is they are less and less RPG and more like a console action game with a backstory.

So, these ex-bioware people saw how much the IE is still liked (just look at GoG sales of the old titles), and thought they still want to do something with it.

Lets hope they actually create some new game. It's a pity they didn't start this 10 years ago.

@Xrogaan: i was never told that bioware doesn't have the source, just one person told me, HE doesn't have it any more.

Sorry, I took it out of my memory and that discussion happened a long time ago. Nice that you corrected me :)
I would like to see Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition on GOG.

Indeed, that crossed my mind too. The man himself Trent Oster has mentioned before that they were looking into ways to distribute BGEE over suppliers other than Beamdog due to market pressure.

These guys are pretty awesome. Players tell them they do not want to use the Beamdog client and they actually listen. Imagine that!
Well, I must admit I'm really sad about that, maybe I'm nostalgic. I would like them not to continue the saga (the future BG3), it is finished as it is now. I would prefer that they did a new saga (name it Calimshan Sun or whatever) and let BG saga rest as it is.

I don't know what exactly will offer the EEs, but being GemRB developed actively now, I think that the open source initiative has more potential.

deathknight1728: This new venture has no promise. Seriously who the fuck cares if baldurs gate is released for a new platform. The game is played on pc and can be played on mac if given an emulator. There is no reason anyone wants to play it on an ipad because your almost completely better off playing on a pc laptop.

1 new adventure/1 new npc?

Are you joking, if they were to do anything about the game, start with the engine. They would take it to the icewind dale 2 engine so that feats can be used, therefore giving more replayability. Other than that, there's not much they can do to make this game any different. Such a waste of time
I can give you a reason why play it on an Ipad, I work 5 days a week 15 hours a day on the road as a concert backline for a sound company. so I get 2 days to play on my pc. When I'm on the job i sometimes get 3 to 5 hours of break in a row but no way to get back home to play because I'm hours away from home. Even if it's the same game with no upgrades I'm planning on buying it for my Ipad.

And for the engine upgrade if there's one thing that would hold me off on buying the game for an Ipad completely (besides DRM) is to see the BG games on any D&D ruleset that is not the 2d that it was first made on 1998. So for your idea to implement 3.5 rules for BG is one of the worst ideas, just watch how many people like IWD 1 over the 2.
Here's something that just came out. Sam Hulick will compose some music for the new content (http://www.baldursgate.com/news/2012/05/10/sam-hulick-scores-music-for-baldurs-gate-enhanced-edition/#more-1115).

I liked Hulick's work, so I'm a bit more excited.
I can't understand how anyone can see the list of people working on this project and not feel good about it. Music, art, writing, all being done by accomplished men, it's obviously no half-assed effort. I have high hopes and each news release only bolsters that hope.

Same here, I'm really hyped about this game. I'm a massive fan of RPG's, yet I have to admit that I haven't played the Baldur's Gate series. I really hope we're going to get that game here on GOG as well.

My advice for you is to drop whatever you are doing and play these games now. The enhanced editions can wait, the vanilla games are at least as deserving of a playthrough.
