Hi,

thanks for dropping by. I just loaded a bg2 final save into a new bgt game. I was surprised to see that my character's weapons and armor were brought along. yet, it just came to my attention that bgi quests gave very little points. I consulted gamebanshee and mike's rpg walkthrough for XP rewards reference and they differ at a significant amount with the ones I actually get. For example, returning boots to a thief in Burning wizards only gave 200 xp while the sites say it should give you 800 XP. I learn that there is no difficulty based penalty on xp rewards in BGT so it must not be the case. I really hope that anyone here could explain this to me. Thanks a bunch!
Well, the XP is divided amongst your characters.
So if a quest gives 1200 XP and you have six characters they each get 200 XP.
I see...
so if the game says my party gained 200 XP, then each char gets 33 xp?
I'm on chapter 4 now and none in my party has leveled up. No wonder now...
I kinda hope that this were a problem that could be fixed, not just how it is.
Anyway, Thanks a lot!

In BG1 it's possible to get quite far into the storyline without ever getting past level 1, if you don't stop to explore but instead head straight to Nashkel. You'll end up with more than enough XP later, though, provided you do sidequests and explore a little.

In BG2 there's a point (usually around level 10-12, depending on class) where there's a huge XP gap between the levels, and it's possible for that to seem like it takes forever depending on where you are at the time. Once you start getting into the meat of BG2, though, you'll be absolutely swimming in XP. Even with a six-person party, the only way to not hit the XP cap by the end of ToB is to not do ANY sidequests.

When you finish a major quest, though, each character will get a certain amount of "quest XP," which can often help balance the XP spread for larger parties. XP for killing monsters and so on is always split, though. Personally I like to use parties of 3-4 characters, which makes them level substantially faster (4 characters will get 50% more XP than 6 characters will) and alleviates some of the pathfinding issues but if you're new to the game it's usually best to take 5-6 characters at all times.

Wow. Clearly you're going directly through the missions and not dealing with monsters along the way. You need to. I suggest going back through the maps you've already been to and clear them out. Kill everything in them. Explore some other maps too.

I'm usually level 2-3 before I even get to the Nashkel mine.

Man, I wish there isn't a manual in gog game folder, so that I don't have to be ashamed of myself not knowing all these stuffs. Thanks!

True to that. I even missed recruiting Minsc and rescuing Dynaheir, the sole reason I purchase BG 1 right after finishing SoA :d.

I'm making sure I do every minor quest right now.

I know its a necro but did you change your difficulty settings any, a lower than "core" difficulty will give you less exp gain.

Difficulty doesn't affect XP rewards. Also, you might wanna look through the posts in a thread to see if the question's been answered before you post. :p

Err. pretty sure it does it says on the tool tip in game in BG2, and i've gotten less experience from doing the same thing in the easiest setting then in the default core setting.

The experience you get depends on what you have installed. For example:

Baldur's Gate 1 -- On Easy setting you get XP/2. There are no changes for Normal setting.
Baldur's Gate 2 -- The lower the difficulty, the more advantages you get, but no disadvantages.

Now comes the 'what you have installed' part. If you have BGT or Tutu installed, the above BG2 rules apply.

Bottom line: You don't get XP/2 on Easy setting in Baldur's Gate 2, BGT or TuTu.

Ah, that explains it. It's been years since I played vanilla BG. :(

lanian: I just loaded a bg2 final save into a new bgt game.
So you say you loaded an BG2-FINAL save (where the characters have like 3.9 mil XP and need 250,000 for a level up) into a new BGT game (which would mean the BG1 part of the trilogy). And now you are wondering why you don't get level ups? With your characters that need 250k xp when in all of original BG1 your entire xp limit was 169k XP and the game was balanced accordingly?

I think I might know what the problem could be... :p
