alangr: I wanted a fighter to be able to dual to a fighter thief for BG2 and started off OK. Now my fighter is Level 6. He is ready to level up to Level 7, but the dual class button is greyed out. My fighter has DEX and STR both of 17 which are required to dual class for a thief and my Thief is Level 7.
You're lawful good.

Thats literally the only reason why it would be grayed out.

P.s.: Oh and yes it has to be a human of course.

Err, information about older system are getting harder to find out with time, not easier.

alcaray: What's confusing is that we have 10 or 12 different versions of D&D to keep track of.
Now I'm confused. I know AD&D, D&D3, and D&D5.

Maybe d20 if you want to count that, though thats really just a very simplified and generalized D&D3.

I dont care about original D&D1 too much, since I never needed it. I only know bits and pieces about it. It was before my time.

D&D3.5 was small random changes and no real improvement, so I ignored it.

I never cared about D&D4, since as far as I'm can tell, thats just odd and weird and not actually D&D. I dont think anyone ever based a D&D game on 4e.

I only have relatively general idea about D&D5 yet, not actually having played BG3 yet. More or less its still very much like D&D3, but it seems more interesting. But I already noticed and was not amused that Fighter gets 4 attacks per round, while Paladin and Ranger only get 2 attacks per round and everybody else only gets one attack per round. I am not sure thats a good idea. Wasnt that exactly one of the things that got better in D&D3 over AD&D ?

Well, I'll probably play BG3 and then I'll find out more about D&D5.

P.s.: As always I hate the formatting this forum software does to postings, turning everything into an unreadable wall of text.

OP figured out the solution from my January 2021 post, and acknowledged it February 3, 2021.
Yep I was very tired yesterday.
