I just started playing Baldurs gate 2 for the first time. Right now I'm at the starter dungeon and my whole party is low on health. Everytime I try to rest I get attacked. Its so annoying. I even set the difficulty on easiest so I can fight every time I sleep but its not helping. Ive fought 10 battles in a row while trying to rest and I cant take it anymore. Can anyone help me?
Different areas have different respawn rates, if you're getting attacked more than once when trying to sleep then the area's no good - try resting in a different area (e.g. the original chamber where you started or for me the library was ok once)
I tried the original chamber but I still get attacked. Ill try making a new game and see if its different this time.
The chance to get attacked or otherwise interrupted while resting is random, too. If you save beforehand, you can rest even in the most dangerous places, as long as you're patient with reloading. There's a time element, as well... sometimes you'll get interrupted after 1 hour of rest, or after 6. However, your characters won't rememorize their spells or reduce their fatigue level unless you manage to successfully rest for the full 8 hours in one go.

That said, I've only been attacked while resting in Irenicus's dungeon once or twice out of the many years I've played BG2... you must have either terrible luck, or some sort of glitch or mod.
I tried uninstalling all my mods (tweak pack and ease of use) and now my game is unplayable! I'm too tired and frustrated to start a new game. Sigh... I guess I'll never know what was so great about Baldurs Gate.
I usually rest in the room with the two golems, door closed behind me. Not certain the door matters, but it definitely makes me feel safer. lol

Give it a few days, reinstall and try again.

It's possible to go through the starting dungeon without resting at all, and it really doesn't make sense for you to rest days in there. With that said, for a new player that would be asking way too much. Just keep it at a bare minimum and you won't have to worry about the spawns during rest either ;)

For healing you could also consume the healing potions you find, out of combat... at least the ones that heal 8 hit points (as far as I remember). You won't be needing them later in the game.

Save before every battle, using the quicksave button. If things could have gone MUCH smoother than they did, you could replay that battle. Also save before you try resting.

This makes me sad. Someone modded, probably on the nefarious advice of others, a game which is already more or less perfect as the developers intended. Please play the game unmodded and if you really want more content, then use mods at your own risk. It's saddening to see that modding may be ruined Baldur's Gate II for someone.
As a last resort you could try the Dungeon-Be-Gone mod

While I vehemently disagree with adding new content mods to BG2, the game is still full of lots of minor bugs. The only mods I would recommend using would be the various bugfix mods available on the Baldurdash website. Apart from the Jaheira romance scripts, though, there aren't any "major" fixes to be done. It's mostly stuff like Valygar not being able to backstab with his family sword, or the Boots of Speed not working properly.

Baldurdash was mandatory for me back in the day, but it's 9 years since it's last update. I'd suggest the G3 BG2 Fixpack which is 'only' two years old, and has a support forum.
