My Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition won't sync with the GOG cloud due to too many saves. No problem, I'll just delete the saves. But this doesn't work - because I can only start the game if I unsync the game which means any saves I delete remain in the cloud itself. No matter what I do - uninstall the game, delete the saves from my hard drive, uninstall GOG galaxy, the problem persists. How do I ensure the saves are actually deleted from the cloud itself?

What is even stranger is that while a "cloud save" folder keeps spontaneously appearing with all these saves inside of it, I can't actually see them in game anymore. When I go to "load game" the saves are gone. I literally have no saved games and it tells me it can't sync because there are too many saved games...

This question / problem has been solved by ussnorwayimage
did you change something in the ui after install like switching to German for example?

also have you got more than one copy of bg EE installed on this same system like a Beamdog or Steam build?

p.s, as a rule I try not to mix my posts but this workaround needs too many images to post on the Gog forum so I had to link to it

I tried your method but I ran into some issues.

First and foremost, I was able to delete files while the game was running so they were deleted from the cloud until the Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition folder had 6 MB stored in it. Nevertheless when I closed the game it said it could not sync because the folder had 203 MB of information in it. I went back and checked and it still only had 6 MB within. What else can I do?

Also, I had some zipped files in there that I can't delete while the game is running. It says they are being used by the game. All they are is zipped files with portraits in them but it won't let me delete them unless the game is off - and of course if the game is off then it won't delete them from the cloud. They don't seem to be taking up much space, only a few hundred KB worth. Still, I'd like them out of the way. Thoughts?

I'll ask again; did you change the ui in some way and have you got another copy of BG installed?

to be clear, [see image 6] this is the folder that Gog tries to sync... all things inside this folder must be less than the limit

now zip files don't belong in Gog [or Beamdog] bg so are you using mods perhaps... is it possible for you to post a image of what is at your end?

1. No I am not using UI mods.

2. No other installations.

3. The zip files are not mods, they are literally zip files that I made myself and just stored them in that folder because I felt like doing so. However because GOG uploads everything from that folder, it has now stored those zip files and I can't get rid of them.

4. I attached a screenshot which shows everything in my BGEE folder. It also shows that it is now showing with about 4 MB but GOG still says it can't sync because it's over 200 MB. Again those zip files are just custom portraits and are only a few KB in size each.

yes that screenshot shows the game isn't running which helps explan the problem

my 4 images are;
error message = you will only get this if you use more than 1 computer or had something like a power outage... it pops up at the start of the game [before sync] and I only include this to cover a possible cause of errors

downsync = this is what I think your issue is i.e, Gog galaxy is helping by downloading files to your computer in order to match them up

game running = this is how you fix it i.e, with the game running in the background [just the menu is fine] go back in and delete these files again

clear = once the folders have extra data removed then go back into the game menu and press the quit option... if you see Galaxy trying to sync again then repeat these last two steps

edit: I need to add a bit here
if Galaxy does sync again at the end and you have to repeat the last two steps then first open your folder and delete the extra files before you start the game... this will tell Galaxy to sync to the local system, then with the game running open your folder and again check the files are removed before you quit the game

Thank you I was able to get it to work finally. I really feel like GOG's cloud save system is a bit flawed. This is one more headache gone - again, thank you. :)
yes and the ocean has a bit of water too ;)
