I really want to change the fps because to me 30 fps is feels like a slideshow, but I have no .ini file to edit. this is confusing to me because I have IWD as well, and the .ini file is right there in the folder it should be. I tried copying it into the baldur's gate folder but that did nothing. any thoughts on why I am missing the baldur.ini file?

You can increase the framerate (sort of) in the game's settings. Keep in mind this would also speed up the in game time; so spells and other timed effects would finish faster than normal.

Edit: Also, you shouldn't be tampering with the BG files unless you are familiar with computer programming.

I've been editing the ini files since the 90s, don't worry about me. the problem with the way you posted is the EE version does not have a loader like the original games did, you can't access any kind of config. I can do that for my non EE version of BG2, but since my BG1 game wasn't working I had to get the EE version that option is not there.

This is not a good idea. Altering the AI timing changes the speed of *everything* in the game, and has the potential to break timed quests. You should have mentioned which version you are using from the start. The enhanced editions do not use an ini file, they use a Baldur.lua file, and the format is completely different. It is also not kept in the game folder, but in the documents (EE) folder.

I clicked message board for my EE version and it sent me here. anyway like I said there is a .ini file for my IWD:EE(in the documents folder) and I can adjust the frame rate for that game through the baldur.ini file. the only thing in my BG1 folder is a .lua, but I don't know how to open it. can I just use notepad?

Yes. It's just a text file like an ini. For some inexplicable reason they called the BG config files 'lua' and IWD they kept to 'ini'.

Perhaps they were drunk or high when they made that decision, like for seemingly most of the "development" process.

IWDEE is not using the same version of the game engine that BGEE and BG2EE are running. When it does it will use baldur.lua

the baldur.lua file when opened through documents in notepad is completely different to the original ini file so I can't work out how to add the cheat console
