Kivan has spell slots, but no spells. Will he get them eventually? This is the first time I've seen this happen with a divine caster.

Rangers don't get any spells until they are at least caster level 8. That's not not going to happen with Kivan in base BG, and unlikely with TotSC, since it takes 150,000 XP to get there and the cap is only 161,000 XP.

Except if it's just that Kivan is below level 8 then he shouldn't even have a spell slot as he appears to in your screenshot. Strange. What level was he when you took that image?

That's normal behaviour, it simply means that he is allowed to cast priest spells e.g. from scrolls (there are some in Durlag's Tower) and will gain access to normal spells (memorized) *eventually*. The same is for Minsc, Ajantis and all rangers and paladins.
