Just got BG2 and am excited to get into it. Since im a new player is it necessary to dl the fixpack? Can i just dl the widescreen/high res fix by itself?
Or do i need both?

They can be installed independent of each other. The Fixpack is just what it says, so go ahead and install the core component. Ignore the OBC (Optional but cool) items. Then the Widescreen mod. My opinion. Others will say don't install the Fixpack for your first playthrough so you can truly experience the game...

Eh, the Fixpack itself merely fixes bugs, and bugs are not what the developers intended. Yes I think you should install it. Should be installed first, followed by whatever else you want.
