I started playing Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition and right now my main is a level 3 Berserker and Imoen is now also level 3. I want to dual class both of them to mages. At what level the dual-classing should be made?

That depends on your goals
BG has an XP cap of 161K XP. This means that any char can have no more than 161K XP divided between all classes. Keep this in mind if you want to reactivate the original class before the end of the game.

Most people dual Imoen when her traps and lock skills are ninety something.
You'll probably want to dual the berserker at lvl4 when you get a second rage. Or 8 if you don't mind waiting until BGII to reactivate the berserker class (not recommended)

Will you carry the party over to BG2, and ToB?

I think I will only dual class my main at level 7 or 9 and keep Imoen as a thief. In BG2 I will have her as a Thief/Mage anyway.

Changes to Imoen (and Minsc and Jaheira) don't carry over in vanilla BGII and BGII:EE. You need mods to do that. Fighter lvl7 = 64K XP
Mage lvl8 = 90K XP
So Berserker 7/ Mage8 is possible without mods


Berserker level 9 requires 250K XP which is not possible in BG without a levelcap remover. (Completing every quest and clearing every zone should give each char in a 6 man party roughly 250K XP)

Well, seems NPCs without mod do not carry over their stats, so change Imoen as soon as you have a comfortable thieving ability. Usualy lockpick or traps.

For the main character, if you carry all the way to ToB, and you hesitate between 7 or 9, it's not even the stats you have to consider, but the amount of exp you can mine in BG1.
You realy want to change class AFTER beating Sharevok in case you don't have the exp-cap removed.

Obviously I have no idea which expansions you have for BG1, but assuming you have (or can have in effect) The Black Pits, I'd change at clvl 7.

Without Black Pits (and no exp-limit removed) I have to say with party the HP is not that much of a deal, and you get 3 companion at the start of BG2, so I'd only go for clvl 9 if you are minmaxing your character.

On the other hand if you have the exp cap rmeoved by any means, there are plenty of more exp in BG1 (easily around a million for a solo character), so THEN I'd go for clvl9.

stats carry over into Dragonspear but not BG2 by default

Imoen should swap class after level 7 which is cannon but also her best option... remember to kick her before starting Dragonspear if you are going to play it
