Stig79: You do get a fair amount of freedom in BG2 and POE too though. You can do the quests in what order you please, and go wherever you like. BG1 has way more freedom, of course, but the areas in BG2 have more content.
I completely agree. Just that when playng BG2 or PoE I felt more restricted than in BG1. I guess I prefer freedom and exploration of the world compared to having fewer but more content-packed areas. For example getting to the Gnoll's stronghold felt like a real journey. One had to go through several maps to get there. The same applies to Gullykin village.
The exploration of map ingredient is completely missing in BG2. In PoE there was a little bit of it, but still not much.
