Has anyone who is running BG under Linux via WINE applied the widescreen and GUI mods successfully?
This question / problem has been solved by xenobrainimage
Running WINE 1.3.1 under Arch Linux, I can confirm the Widescreen and GUI mods definitely install, and work correctly in-game.

You will notice the setup programs throw a ton of:
$ fixme:msvcrt:MSVCRT__sopen : pmode 0x01b6 ignored
all Weidu installers do this, yet work fine.

As much of a Linux geeks as I am, I still prefer to run under XP as performance in high-res is awful enough under XP, and running it under WINE is far worse! YMMV, of course!

Only bug encountered is the cursor flickers a bit, but is otherwise glitch-free for me.
Thanks for the info

You have to enable 3D acceleration and the flickering will be gone.
Strangely it did not work in the config menu, but only through editing the baldur.ini.
In section "[Program Options]" you have to set "3D Acceleration=1".

I can confirm this basically works on OS X through WINE, though the performance seems awful with the widescreen mod enabled. I'm going to try 3D acceleration...

That's it! Awesome. Fixed the glitch with the mouse, too. Thanks!
For running WeiDU installers with WINE, I found that running them in a terminal works better. Run "wine cmd" and then within that windows command terminal change to the appropriate directory and run the installer.

There is also a native Linux (and Mac OS X) version of WeiDU which can install many mods including the widescreen mod.
