In most cases this isn't too big of an issue as you can simply open your inventory and re-equip the weapon. However I ran into an instance near the start of the game where I was almost unable to complete a scripted combat sequence in the car with Jackie because I couldn't shoot the guys in the van due to having no weapon equipped. Had to blow a bunch of health injectors to get past it or it would have broken the game.
