alidan: Hey, gog or cdpr, I don't really care which.
I have 70$ from now till the 25th ready for preorder game If you give me any of the specs and if you tell me win7 or 10 only.

I personally have to stay on 7 due to ms firing all their qa and pushing qa to beta testers and the inability of them to distinguish features from security, or the ever fun 'we decided to push this and oops most of your drive is now formatted' that happened with symbolically linking, I don't have the money to run a secondary hot backup for when microsoft decided to dick me, but for 2077, I do have the patience to bios disable drives and boot 10 from a stick just for the game but I require to know if its even worth my time or if my hardware isn't even going to make minimum spec, cpu will definately be good enough but gpu... I really don't want to put everything to minimum to run on a 1060 6gb given what minimum looks like.
avatar
lace_gardenia: Is 10 still that bad? I'm not surprised of ms (again) snatching bluescreens from the jaws of stability, but the current releases has seemed pretty ok to me from what i've seen. I take it you were hit by some major bugs?
a few updates ago, anyone who did symbolic linking, it's not something that you normally do in windows, my understanding is its more a unix thing where lets say I install a game on my S: drive, but I want it on my C: drive that is an nvme, the painless way to do this is to copy all the files to the C: drive then symbolically link them to the S: drive making everything seem like its still installed on the s drive from a 'I want to run the game' perspective, but with full benefits of the c: drives speed because that's where it really is. a few updates ago they more or less deleted every single file that was symbolically linked, both the link and the actual locations of the files.

Then you have feature updates that are forced that break systems and put them into blue screen loops, a fun thing that happened when I was testing the os on a few occasions. but this would all be ok if I could, you know, not update, or just update security, but you can't do that reliably and every time windows updates it still changes your settings to what it wants.

and this is all before going into how much i despise the flat design, it looks like crap and studies have even shown it lowers productivity substantially.

Now, there have been a few things that make me want to use 10, 1 of them was a guitar app called bias fx 2 which needs 8 or 10, but I can live without it. and fortza, but if I decide to completely block microsoft servers so my computer never speaks to it at all, I cant play it, and if I do manage to not update the os, the game stops working unless its on the newest version of the os.

If my computer was just a game console, sure, I could put 10 on it and not care, but i need my computer to actually work, and I can't rely on 10. Honestly, when new gpus come out that are better than my 1060 6gb, i'm probably going to go linux and gpu pass though to win 7 and win 10, that way I can dictate what hardware 10 sees and has access to while not needing to shut down 7/close everything i'm going to play a game. I just need a new gpu so I have 2 to do this right.

DoomFruit: This isn't something you fix, it's something you prevent. Don't do it in the first place. Just Say No (to "cloud" things).
amen to that.
for every claim about how wonderful cloud computing + storage is and how safe your data is, there's a news article about how XYZ institution/company/etc. was just hacked with millions of users compromised ("oh but that was was THEM, WE will be much more careful... promise!") - i avoid it and tell everyone around me to avoid it

+1 for waiting to see if Cy2077 runs on Win7 before taking it seriously

I would prefer not to buy windows 10 in order to play Cyberpunk after so many years I ended dilike windows mic so would be great to be able to play it on win 7 this is the reason I am waiting to see what will be done. As I trust CD Project Red I don't mind to preorder it knowing that would run on Win 7 64bit
avatar
MagicElmo: So CDPR really can't commit to Win7.
avatar
Yunipuma: But we are NOT talking about commitment.
We ARE talking about support.
There is the next question what can CD Project then do when your GPU drivers are not working on Win7 because the support ended.

And what they have to do ? doing the work and fix GPU drivers by themself ?

Windows 10 isnt bad i run it since there was a free upgrade from Windows 8.1 to windows 10 and belive me i never reinstalled windows on my system since that day.

It run perfect and is the best windows i ever had.
I remember how many times i had to reinstall Windows xp.
Vista was a garbage because i had a 3 core CPU and it was just supported by Vista.
Windows 7 wasnt bad as 8.1 but i swaped to windows 10 and it was great, the next thing is the support for windows 7 isnt alowed by alot of Hardware anymore like Intel CPU*s.

Not a hate speech, but - I do NOT believe you. Because I know NOTHING about you and I have no reason to trust your opinion.
As simple as that. Nothing personal.

And what make the Windows 7 better then the windows 10 in your mind when you hate windows 10 that much and don't want to upgrade ?

The upgrade dont need 100* of $.
Did you ever tryed Windows 10 ?

You dont have to belive me because i told you that i like it and it is in my mind better then the windows's before.
And it's your option to upgrade or not.

it is really nice that you have not had to reinstall once since what, 2014/15? hard to believe seeing as how, even now, microsofts default view is "go ahead and reinstall" but good for you

that in no way makes a difference to those of us that have had problems since day 1.

i was one of the unfortunates that got caught in their bs forced updates. not going to rehash all of the troubles it caused or the drives i had to reformat, with all of the data loss involved, seeing as how i was not prepared for an update. just enough to say it was huge

since i was there, i stayed. i tried using it for 3 months. it is the biggest shift to data collection i have ever seen. nothing they have done has anything to do with security. microsoft realized that they were losing crap tons of money by us being able to turn things off. it winds up being that simple. they knew about, and did nothing about, all of the security problems for years. once they saw how much money there is in brokering our personal data they decided it was time that an apple like closed structure will net them the most money

i use a pc becaue i liked the control. i could do what i wanted and back in the day (yup, i'm old) when you jacked up your computer because you messed with a file you should not have, people helped you fix it and then walked you through steps to get your desired resulst. now you get called a "snowflake" and told to leave your machine alone, microsoft knows what they are doing

And who tell you that microsoft cant collect your data from a Windows 7 ?
you can turn off alot of things in windows 10, and do you think Google/amazon/and even your smartphone provider is not collecting your data ?

Sure i like it when i dont have to fix the problems by my own, and there will be enough windows problems in the future.
Show me anything where microsoft is doing nothing on security ?

The other thing is: you dont know me, you dont know how old i am, you dont know what i am working at.
You know Nothing about me but want to say me that i have no idea what i am doing on a windows ? or even on a Hardware System ?

Don't be so Disrespectfull to people's you dont know.

damn dude, take a pill. i don't like windows 10 i said nothing about you. read it again if you need to.

i was responding to your post of not having troubles and seeing no reason not to upgrade with one that showed the exact opposite and gave a very good reason.

as for the security thing, again, reread the post. i said that the security issues have been there and known for years, that the idea that the reason they are going the route they have has nothing to do with security like thye said but data collection. read the reports on the things they have known and done nothing about until someone else not only pointed it out to them but told them they rae going to let everyone else know if it is not fixed.
yes, they can collect data in 7 and earlier but i can stop it at every attempt. i can prevent what i want them to see and know. i cannot do this with 10. at every step microsoft has attempted to remove the ability to do this as soon as it was found.

as for android, wtf? what the hell does that have to do with the conversation we are having? seriously, pc v phone?

if you must know, i bought my first android a couple of years ago. it was a pay as you go and i did exaclty what i did with every other gadget i got, i took it apart and found out what i need to know. not one of the phones i have had since has any of my info on it. not any contacts or legit emails. all have been rooted and tweaked. my legit emails i keep and use seperately with linux computers.

Give it up now. This is one of those Win10 for the Win, people who complained and argued at anyone wanting win 7 support for Cyberpunk, basically near spamming that we should trust micro&oft 110%. Might as well let it go. You can't change stupid. You can't win against stupid.

Hopefully if CD project does PUT win10 DRM on their Cyberpunk game, they will give us an option to REFUND our money for those of us who don't want that BS. But I SO hope that CD project doesn't do that crap that Micro&soft did. So far they havn't added anything but win10 on their requirement platform for the game, but hopefully win7 will be put up there.
It should not be forgotten that support for Windows 7 will be discontinued on January 13, and strongly paid support will be available until year 23. It, I don 't think many people need it. And in the future games in a row will come out under seven.

I'm not worried about Win7 no longer getting updates. If I stick with it, I do run the risk of an unpatched vulnerability getting exploited... which will first have to get through my router, my firewall software, my AV software, Firefox with NoScript and RequestPolicy (blocking 99% of everything makes the web both faster and safer), 15 years of paranoid Internet habits and a system which is already cut down and therefore with a smaller vulnerability profile (for reference, there was a bug in the remote desktop services that allowed anyone to access your machine. I wasn't ever vulnerable to that, because it's one of the un-necessary services that I nuke right after setting up the system).

On the other hand, if I install Win10, I'm guaranteed to get a spyware infection immediately, because that's what Win10 is.

When you're confronted with the possibility of getting a hepatitis infection, the correct response is not "right, fuck it, I'm going to deliberatly infect myself with HIV".
