Is there a possibility to completely remove the darkening of the screen edges? I find this extremely disturbing. I know this effect is wanted while crouching (for whatever reason, please add an option to remove it), but why does it have to persist (even though les prominent) when walking/running? Does V suffer from some disease? Should he/she visit the ophthalmologist?

Ps: This effect is very noticable at the left and right edges, less on on the bottom and top of the screen. Is this some sort of effect that wants to mimick a camera's behaviour when adapting to different light conditions? Like clicking on the sun when taking a photo of the sunset on your phone camera, or on the dark ground.

Requires modding, but yes, it's it possible to remove the pointless vignette.

Also make sure you have turned off film grain, chromatic abberation and all of the other "basic features" in the video settings. Especially motion blur. All that crap does is making the visual experience worse.
