I'm very new to GOG, and i just got free games from Amazon Prime Gaming. After following the instructions, i pasted the code of the game, created my account. Logged in into the browser, and there are the games. Awesome!

The big problem is that, in the browser my name is : Sazuko57 and in the GOG app it is : Sazuko93.
Why is that, when asked previously i gave my exact mail adress, and chose a password. Didn't get no answer by mail.
I don't really understand if someone could help me out...

When i log out and login on the GOG app, it is always Sazuko93. Why?

It's ok i found the problem, when entering my email i forgot one letter... So i changed it, because it was none of my mail adresses. And now i can play, but the problem is, that it's not on my main account... Better than nothing.

Unfortunately, it's not possible to merge accounts or transfer games between them.

They really should allow it. UK laws allow you to resell digital goods same as physical products, so the fact they are refusing to support/allow it...

Besides, as long as none of the games are duplicates (excluding perpetually free ones) there shouldn't be a reason you can't, it's just a change in ownership ID in the Database/table. Though the risk of being hacked and someone stealing all the games, probably not.

UK Law doesn't actually give consumers here that right - are you thinking of a different country?

no i was pretty sure it was a UK/EU law, and steam had been sued on it before. That digital goods had to have the same refund and sell-ability factor as their physical counterparts.

EU "law" is an interesting one as it doesn't usually have direct effect in member states unless it's a Treaty or Regulation. The "law" that they're relying on here is a Directive, which has to be individually implemented (and also is interpreted differently by different member states). Even Regulations (such as the GDPR), which theoretically should be equivalent throughout the EU (plus the UK) are interpreted and implemented very differently in different countries - e.g. in Germany vs the UK.

For the UK, as we have now left the EU, it comes down to what was implemented pre-Brexit and what legislation has passed since then (as the most recent primary legislation takes precedence regardless of which previous laws it contradicts).

Which? is a well respected consumer rights group in the UK, so without going into this in much more detail, I'd be inclined to believe them when they make a statement on consumer rights/law in the UK. This doesn't mean that you can't resell your digital downloads in an EU country.

I think that the approach that the UK is taking is more akin to a chocolate bar. You buy a bar (which is effectively a download code), which you can sell on at this point. But when you open the bar and eat the chocolate (applying the code to your account), you consume the product so there's nothing left you can sell on (note that most sites give you the option of a gift code vs directly applying that code to your account).

Of course, I would also point out that even if you had an inalienable legal right to sell a download, your rights on your downloads are separate to your rights on your account, which are governed by a separate contract (in simple terms, you have Contract of Use on the account, Contract of Sale of goods when you buy a game and the EULA when you install it). You may be able to re-sell, but this can be a breach of your Contract of Use on the account, meaning that legally the account can be terminated.

As a lawyer, I find it all quite interesting!
