nightcraw1er.488: I want my new computer nvidia 3080 for which I have been waiting months! I want dizzy at 16k over four monitors!
Heh. I''ve been waiting since they released to even appear on the market here. Wanted to finally make full use of my 240 Hz display but I will have to stay on my 1080ti for a lot longer it seems.

The market in my country is small and uninteresting on the grand scale of things. I'm going to consider myself lucky if I can get one by the end of this year.
That says "OS independent"... i wonder if it means that even Windows XP could boot from it?

(I guess running old OSes that aren't "SSD-aware" is not necessarily a good idea, but still...).
currently atm ......

Concerning the gpu, i would wait at least until intel releases their consumer grade cards

dtgreene: I've read online that my model (Lenovo 110S, 11-inch screen) has such a slot, but perhaps it might make sense to open it to check.

Edit: Forgot to mention, in the anti-NVIDIA part of this post, that I use Linux, which is a rather significant detail here (as much of the argument wouldn't make sense otherwise).
as I read your post I remembered you're a Linux user. When I was primarily using linux, Nvidia also gave me quite the headache. I totally understand.

As for the SSD, this gent pulled it off: https://youtu.be/o35JVtcNaX4

Yep, tell me about it. It’s been ages waiting for it. Hoping this month or next will get mine. Actually thought about cancelling a couple of times, but want to turn my current box into a media center/emulator station. This whole chip/electronic shortage is only going to get worse now, and with the online shopping bots bots it’s making it hard to get anything of value. The 1080 cards are pretty good though, I wouldn’t bother with the 20xx series, am skipping that totally.
Regarding SSDs, personally I would not recommend DRAM-less or QLC drives (especially for an OS drive), so the WD Green and Kingston A400 (both DRAM-less), will not be my choice. First of all, look for drives with 5 years warranty. Besides the Crucial MX500 and Samsung 860/870 EVO, Kingston KC600 and Micron 1300 are very good drives. So are the SanDisk Ultra 3D (which is basically a WD Blue 3D) and the WD Red SA500, but I believe these ones come with just 2 or 3 years warranty.

If you want more info, check this reddit thread. The 3rd link in it is a comprehensive spreadsheet with more than 300 drives listed.

And don't forget about a pair of cybernetic eyes, so you can enjoy all that extra detail!

AFAIK, 8K computer monitors don't exist yet (4x8K=16K).

8K TVs exist... maybe some 5000$ workstation GPU is able to combine 4 of them into a single image. The 3080 can't - max res = 8K.
