EDIT (2018-06-21): Release of The Color of Madness DLC is a very good reason to bump this thread! :D

------------------------------------------------------------

I've got Darkest Dungeon a few weeks ago and I absolutely love it. What saddens me the most is the content of the official GOG's Darkest Dungeon forum - yes, it has some topics but in general it is a desert (or maybe I should use the word wasteland) as most of the posts are about bugs, issues and crashes...

I encourage other DD players to share their experiences, knowledge, tips, tactics and strategies on aforementioned forum. It's a shame that such great game does not have "proper" backup in GOG's community. Let's change this and bring DD's subforum to life. :)

Here are some examples (my topics) where you can post if you do not want to start your own new one:

- This is one of the top games I've played. (discussion)
- The Musketeer DLC (FAQ)
- *** Quirks (discussion)
- *** Bosses (party setup for Darkest campaign / Champion difficulty)
- *** Ruins (party setup for Darkest campaign / Champion difficulty)
- *** "The Wall" (safe party setup for Darkest campaign / Champion difficulty)
- *** "The Hunting Hounds of Hell" (effective party setup for Darkest campaign / Champion difficulty)

*** EDIT (2018-06-21): Because of The Color of Madness DLC's long patch notes these guides are heavily outdated at this moment but I'll will try to update them soon™. Still, I encourage you to join these discussions to let me know how my setups work for you after TCoM update. :)

Most games subforums are like this I belive. It's sort of a self-perpetuating cycle. The sub-forum is deserted, so to get a response any time soon people post in the general forum, so the subforums are deserted and so forth.

Yes, I know this, but this game is sooooo exceptional, amazing and fun that I had no other choice than posting this here as I do not really want to clutter general forum that much.

Maybe there are some more people who think like me, so this could be a good start. :)

On a curated site, that should be the norm. ; )

But. I think many newcomers might not know they need to manually add subfora, and old-timers like me forget to do so with each purchase. Might explain some of the empty game discussion areas.
Most games are "sooooo exceptional" to someone though. I played darkest dungeon for a bit, liked the art style and unusual perspective, but it got quite dull rather rapidly. Move to the right, treasure or monster? Repeat, either die or go back to town, repeat.

Now if you want something soooo exceptional, try mount and blade warband, either with PoP (just released v3.9), or Perisno (which I am currently playing). Cracking good fun, nothing like watching an army of 300 elephants and tigers crash in bloody combat.
GOG must enhance the subforums, add a direct link on the page of the respective game, add a decent game hub like Steam with the possibility to create guides, and add the presence of pictures directly in the posts.

All this would certainly lead to more people using them. I like the minimalism of this forum, but it is undeniable that it needs some substantial changes to make it more attractive to the new users. I hope that for the tenth anniversary they have prepared some beautiful surprises in this matter.

I've had problems with some of the subforums on this site.

There are subforums which are rather empty. Aside from the one mentioned in the topic title, the Elder Scrolls series subforum suffers from this. I would really like to discuss these games (as it enhances my enjoyment of them), but I can't if there's nobody to talk to. (Yes, there are some folks IRL who I can talk about those games with, but that requires being in the same place at the same time; it isn't that simple.)

Then there are toxic subforums, like the ones for much of the Infinity Engine games. In these subforums, there are users who are actively hostile toward in depth discussions of the games, to the point of arguing that certain discussions shouldn't be happening. (Mainly happens when talking about some of the more technical aspects of the game engine or the game mechanics, particularly when taken to extremes.)

With that said, there are a few good subforums out there. Quest for Glory is one example, while Ultima, Wizardry, and Might and Magic are decent (though they could still benefit from more productive traffic).

If only everything in these forums were as clear and sane as your posts.

Even the best games, at some level of play, can become repetitive. But I like the options Darkest Dungeon offers. For me the real fun is in the town, when I'm planning my next expedition, selecting heroes, skills and trinkets. The more I play the more time I'm sitting in town. :D

It's fine if Darkest Dungeon isn't your cup of tea, but the game really is exceptional - in that it rewards thoughtful planning and strategizing. And, Lexor is doing exactly the right thing by posting here inviting people to come try this awesome game and then to talk about it.

This game is perfect for having a subforum devoted it. There are different strategies you can adopt, but they are discussable by comparing actual numbers and results. It's a special kind of fun!

But your both missing the point, almost every game is special to someone, should everyone start a thread pointing to the sub forum they are interested in? What is needed is better focus for people to post in the right forum for a particular game, i.e. Sorting out the forum in general.

I am not missing the point. You are being a killjoy
I am looking for some free Android alternatives for Darkest Dungeon to try. The reviews about Dungeon Survivor 1 and 2 say it's a copy of Darkest Dungeon. Anything we know about these or any other suggestions?
