So besides the cheesy tough dudes modern games got this retarded combat system that completely turns me off. So you are like surrounded by a couple of bad guys and then all you do is press highlighted buttons and your guy does some crazy preanimated acrobatic bs and drops mobs like flies. And you just watch the show and jack off in the meantime. Seriously, is this what you call an immersive game, where you press buttons and trigger mini cut scenes?
Now I know that it ain't easy to come up with a challenging melee combat system in a 3d game b/c you already have so many buttons to press just to maneuver your guy around. It's alot easier with an ego shooter where the aiming and gun managment does the trick and makes you feel you're actually doing something. And having combat moves that you're in control of is probably too uncool for these AAA franchises. They rather sacrifice gameplay for looking more movie-like.
I recently played some Mount&Blade. I think it's a pretty good game. Just doesn't feel as casual and more rewarding. The combat system doesn't have this cinematric stuff. There is just ways to swing your weapon and block in different directions, thats it. But as a whole it's actually pretty complex. It's like this is a real game experience, no gimmickry, no special moves, no powerups and all that console shit.
I'd like to see more mature games like this that don't go for superficial entertainment and give you an actual game to play. Also what I like about it is that sandbox thing. You are not a badass right from the start that is introduced with lots of cutscenes. You are what you make of yourself and create your own career in a dynamic scenario.
