I don't want this to come off as a crass question, but I thought he passed away last year.

Either way, his impact on the world was legendary and eternal.

I hated and I hate Pac-Man, but the game itself was just a minor blip compared to what he actually did when he created it. So much more I can never thank him enough for.

Not crass at all. But the time stamp on The NYT article is pretty clear. I just think you must be remembering someone else.

He did not, but his dedication to his products should be a major example to all the other publishers, rights owners and "release it regardless of it being done because xmas" persons out there:

Mr. Nakamura was not a game designer. But unlike his rival and contemporary Hiroshi Yamauchi, the longtime president of Nintendo, who was said never to play video games, Mr. Nakamura tested Namco’s products intensively. Employees said he would play for up to 23 hours a day before a game’s introduction.

Never know her before. But as a gamer I give her my respect. RIP
Yeah i read about that too. I didn't know who invented Pac Man, but now I know. Too late. Rest In Pieces.

As a homage, they should make a new version of Pac Man, add Masaya's ghost as the fifth ghost. Along with the existing ones (Winky, Twinkie, Dinky and Kinky, or what were they called again).

Rest in peace Masaya Nakamura a true pioneer of the gaming world.

I personally believe todays gaming world would be a shadow of what it is without guys like this entertaining and inspiring the first generation of gamers.

PACMAN was the game that got me hooked on gaming in the first place, i spent most of my youth playing games like pacman space invaders at the local arcade many eons ago :P. and i have loved games ever since and I thank guys like him for it.

That's sad to hear. At least he lived a long life and made something so big.

Also, I could not resist.
