Thanks for bearing with us in this thread. We’d like to announce that today we’ve introduced the addition of new installers, with implemented GOG Galaxy client.

Like Destro described it back in May, we decided to separate the „new" and „classic” installers, for your choice. So if you don’t care about the features like achievements or cloud-saves and don’t want to use GOG Galaxy, you can download the „Classic Game Installer", just like it was handled before. For games that have new installers, the default download view on „My account” will show the "GOG Galaxy Game Installers" - you will notice that, as it is visibly described in „My account” game view. To download the „classic” ones, just go to „Options" and choose „Classic Installers”.

The new GOG Galaxy Game Installers were added to +100 games - a selection of all games that make use of GOG Galaxy features. I'll post the current list of games with the new installers in a separate post.
Going forward, all new games that will use GOG Galaxy features, will now receive both GOG Galaxy Game Installer and Classic Game Installer.

Introduction of GOG Galaxy Game Installers doesn’t change anything in terms of keeping the Classic Game Installers up to date. As soon as we receive an update for any game, we will prepare an updated version of the classic installer, just like it was done in the past.

Edit: Pinned.

Gersen: So because you don't like having to uncheck a check box in a installer you decided to go instead to console where the hardware is locked down, you need to create an account and, depending of the console, activate it online before you can download patches, where digital games DRMs are a lot stricter than Steam+Denuvo ever were, etc...

You are free to do what you want but it doesn't make that much sense. If you are anti-DRM / customer restriction then consoles are the worst place to go.

It's like saying : "I don't like that I now have to put a "No Advertising Material Sticker" on my mailbox to stop receiving advertisement so, as a plan B, I have decided to move to North Korea"
Could not agree more with this... instead of putting up with an annoying inconvenience, they instead want to throw the baby out with the bathwater. No matter how much you may dislike this change, it still arguably way better than Steam (with Denuvo, GFWL, and butch of other crappy DRM systems) or consoles.

This is why I think a lot of people here are irrational... I can't see how anyone that really cares about DRM can rationalize this that way.

Djaron: i went to plan B: buy a console instead.

i guess both steam+denuvo and NOW gog both convinced me to finally give up pc gaming again and retreat to an box(already had an xbox account with games on it from the past) as a plan b against their crap.

well, i already had the account
i am anti drm, but putting a disk in a box is so far the least drm i can expect now in this industry (because YES i am one of those retards who dont purchase account-tied digital not-that-cheap versions of games but rather the versions with physical media included, even if nowadays, consoles use them as installer disk and "physical dongle" rather than run-from-media as before)
cd projekt plans/roadmap were made quite clear in the document once listed here

not only i dont like to have to always uncheck something (i'd rather had a second box like "remember this choice" for example), i also have to handle on my shoulder and devices the weight of the bloatware-like extra required storage. given the number of game i have, it would mean many gigabytes for nothing (and not to mention it: for soon outdated stuff)
drm on console may be stricter than denuvo ? but the point is: any drm found on console aint messing with my main computer and that's what i ask: keep my OS clean... GOG clearly stated they didnt intend to help me on that anymore.

for me, this current move (selling a drm-loaded game here, plus the opt-in feature, the bloatware ccollateral effect, the crippled games making galaxy client mandatory, etc) is NOT customer friendly at all...
i shall have no desire nor reason to endorse it
and if i am to be screwed by ruthless and mercyless publishers and online services, at least i shall go where i already have some assets from a previous "gamer life", and who didnt lie about their work from the very start, rather than those who suddenly turn against me.

as the saying goes: "fool me once, shame on you... fool me twice, shame on me"

as much as i do like the "wolf-packing" attitude to pick on someone... i'm afraid to let you know i'm more rational that you would assume
dont think i took a decision just during this afternoon... this now was just the last straw that weighted in favor of it
and i may have some priorities that would be meaningless or not very relevant to you
it worked fine the last time i resorted to this tactical-retreat plan

BKGaming: Optional: "available to be chosen but not obligatory."
According to Cambridge English dictionary: If something is optional, you can choose if you want to do it
avatar
BKGaming: Installing Galaxy is not obligatory.
it is currently with the installer installing it by default, it's not optional to install, if there was a button on the main installer that said install Galaxy alongside the button for installing the game, Galaxy would still be totally optional,

BKGaming: but time for me to bow of this thread.
Almost like what GOG is doing to this drama? /s

227: Huh. Kind of hard to reconcile "optional" with "ecosystem that will constitute an integral part of our future videogame releases."
Basically what they said is that their future games releases, as in Cyberpunk & Co, will take advantage of Gog and Galaxy infrastructure and features; it doesn't say anything about said features being mandatory.

I am pretty sure Cyberpunk will still be released on Steam and probably even Gwent.

And you choose if you want to leave it checked or not... again lets split hairs.

Steam started this way, Counter-Strike 1.6 got a "online-client" that was optional for Multiplayer gaming, then almost the next year, Half-life 2 came out, and valve said their optional online client will be abandoned and Steam their DRM "always" on Client will now be used. How long before GOG does it?

So I guess we're not getting any more clarification on all this before it drops tomorrow? 750+ replies, very few answered questions, near universal agreement against the idea, and in the end we don't know what we're getting. Super well done on the communication front GOG team. I guess we'll see what tomorrow brings...

and it will be so funny to see steam customers of cyberpunk to have to install galaxy on top of their steam client because of this game (and probably in order to use some of the game's feature, aka "having the full experience" of it)

a bit like origin and uplay for now....

and it is I who is said to be silly to just insert a disk, install on hdd and play, without clogging my main computer ? ok, makes more sense, all of a sudden :)

sunshinecorp: *snip*
I won't buy a game from GOG ever again, just stick around to get the free ones from GOG Connect, unless they change their minds about this. If they only understand money, I'm taking mine away.
And don't forget about the occasional freebie. If money is the only language they'll listen to then so be it. I'll take their freebies, read their message boards, use their GOG Connect, and then spend my money elsewhere.

This thread keeps getting better and better. Now we're getting even the lurkers and people who've been long since gone to come make a reappearance once more, just to express discontent.
It feels like we're all rallying together for some sort of last stand.

I don't know... it may be tomorrow, and it may be never. I would rather not live in the fear of the unknown. I own a lot of games here, if GOG suddenly adopts DRM tomorrow I would of course be mad as hell.

But today, today GOG is free of DRM and arguably the best alternative to those seeking a DRM free experience. While that statement is true, I can't see myself running back to Steam or consoles where I KNOW where they stand just because GOG makes a few changes I disagree with. The core experience is still the same.

taking advantage of many peeps inertia/lazyness in order to legitimate the action of forcing something upon everyone unilateraly....

very common marketing ploy, insidious, hard to spot or to argue against (as it was shown here), used since the dawn of times because always efficient and reliable... saw where it led us so far ? (not on gog specifically, was talking on the broader side of things)

it really reminds me about the little educational video against TCPA, that was called "trusted computing"...
you can apply all the ideas and point made there and replace trusted computing with "galaxy" up to the last sentence :)

i think this "shit storm" could have been averted if GOG made the galaxy install an opt-in and not an opt-out decision, and I think that's why the shit storm erupted, People don't want a piece of software forced down their throat.

no you wont, because you'll force-rationalize it into a way to see it as a positive opportunity and to no bother that much about it because it could be worse later and not yet... no worry, i get the drill
