Sorry if this is the wrong place for this but I created an account and bought a couple of titles (Baldurs Gate nostalgia trip). On trying to download the games I get asked for an activation code that should have been e-mailed to me. I haven't had any e-mails from GOG in the last hour or so since starting, am I being too impatient or missing something?

Dumb question: did you buy the games here, or from some "reseller" site like G2A?

Did you try to download the games on a different computer than the one you used to buy them? Because that might have triggered the Two Step Authentication.
Regarding not getting the "activation code" e-mail, check your junk/spam folder. Beyond that, I'm not sure what's going on.

What do you mean by activation code? If you buy game it should be in your library ready to be downloaded and installed. Unless you bought the games as gift, then you have to redeem them first.

Don't the original versions come with a code? I thought you got the new updated ones as is and then the codes to get the original unaltered versions, or am I on crack?

Now that you write that, it is true that the original Baldur's gate games are bonus codes. So you are not on crack. :) But I do not understand the part "trying to download them and get asked..". For the record, I bought them long before the EE versions appeared here so I have no idea exactly how it is handled nowadays.

Thanks all for the responses, I'm using the same computer as account creation, spam folder was first check and as HunchBluntley mentioned the message I get is a "Two Step". Tried selecting resend security code but still no e-mail, mail address on account double checked and it's OK so out of ideas. I shouldn't see why it would matter but i'm in UK.

Again thanks for your input, shut down and restarted my browser (Chrome on Win 10) and I can now connect with GOG Galaxy and downloading as I Type. So looking forward to this as I played when it was first released and had all the expansions but lost the CD's with a house move that didn't go quite to plan.
