John Hurt, the legend of screen and stage whose prolific and varied career has spanned six decades, has died aged 77.

At least he's safe from Aliens now.
What??? This makes me sad now :(

Yeah...but who's gonna pour drinks in Sinner's Inn now..:-(
RIP

He was one of my favorites actors of all time. His performance in the film 1984 was stellar and help me write my English Essay for my exams a tong time ago.
RIPs.

In Finnish media, this was mentioned as "the man who played The Elephant Man", so I was like "Huh? So who was that then, some deformed actor?". Oh, the Alien guy...

It is a bit like if Tom Cruise passed away, they'd report it as "the guy who played the bartender in Cocktail".

A great actor has passed on. Rest in peace, John Hurt.

A fantastic actor, this one at least doesn't come as too big a surprise as I knew he had cancer but it's a huge loss.
Woah! TIL.
Just been digging into what else he's been in.

Knew I'd seen him in all sorts, didn't realise he was Elephant Man (lots of make up though hehe) but I'd no idea that he was Professor Broom in Hell Boy. The voice is obvious now, but I hadn't realised.

Same goes for S.R.Haden (the rich dude) in Contact.
Oh no. No, no, no.

That's pretty much everthing I could say when Isaw this thread. Then I checked if it's true and went back to saying "no, no, no".

I loved John Hurt. One of my favourite actors of all time. Superb talent, so many great roles. I just recently rewatched I, Claudius, and he was amazing as Caligula. And he just kept showing up in supporting roles in so many movies, some of them my very favourites, that he almost felt like a constant presence in my life somehow. Whether it was The FIeld, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy or Hellboy and V for Vendetta or his voice as the best and most underrated Disney villain ever I would constantly come across another and another great performance of his. When it was announced he would play Doctor Who I was practically jumping for joy like a little kid, it was so perfect.

I'm sad now, but there is one thing that helps me- I know that he has filmography so rich I will keep coming across more roles of his I have not yet seen for a while longer.
I love entire Alien (1979) crew including him. Rest In Peace John Hurt.
i knew this year was gonna suck
