About the guy who enlisted the upcoming RPG Tides of Numenera on GOG.. I’m not sure what series of events could have transpired in his life to make him think he should put the aforementioned game, a successor of one the most true RPGs of all time, under the category ADVENTURE...
Well, to be fair, not many roleplaying games are without adventure, right?
If we are going to start picking apart inconsistent game labeling we're gonna be here a LOOOOOOONG time.

I'm not saying it's right, I'm just saying it might be a necessary evil.

This particular case though is really really really bad.

And Torment's strength was the story-telling, not the combat. To a certain degree it offered more roleplaying than the average RPG and better story-telling than the average point-and-click adventure. RPGs and adventure games have always shared certain similarities. That doesn't make Torment an adventure game, but sadly IIRC there are games on GOG with much more inappropiate tags.
I just hope there are no "clever" monkey wrench puzzles in there.

Lol, I still cannot understand who thought that effin' nonsensical puzzle was a good idea.
In my opinion, all games that are billed as "adventure" should be the point-and-click/puzzle-solving type, whereby you're a character who goes around talking to people and collecting inventory and such.
The problem is that the classification on this is a pretty broad one compared to game genres such as FPS where it's usually pretty cut-and-dry. Another problem is that a lot of people who aren't adventure gamers/otherwise a big fan of the genre will assume that "adventure" just means there's a story to it whereby your character is...well...going on an adventure. By these criteria, a lot of fantasy games and RPGs will get shoved under it.

I actually solved it pretty easily. I guess you need to be in the right frame of mind :P

Plus, there was a hint for that puzzle in a note inside one of the drawers of the file cabinet in the... library? Or at least there was in the Spanish-translated version I played long ago.

(What? Didn't you all read all of those notes too?)
I need to sit down and play Torment once and for all.

What mods/fixes do I absolutely have to have?

The Actually Interesting and Exciting Beginning That Doesn't Make You Wish Were Watching People In a Coma Play Chess Instead mod. If there is one.

Yeah, I never even made it out of the mortuary :P

XD This is going to turn out to be one of those thing I hated that the rest of the world loved.

I'll be able to put it there with System Shock and LOTR.

Try these?

Every few months someone bumps either this one or the Baldur's Gate mod spotlights and I always try to store them in my memory banks as they tempt me to fire one of these up again, with mods. I'm notoriously paranoid when it comes to downloading mods but I figure if GoG spotlighted them they must be safe LOL.

Disclaimer - I've never played these and I don't know if the links still work (I think at some point in the thread a few users linked to working links when the originals were dead). But I've always wanted to...

... maybe finally sooner rather than later? I mentioned not too long ago I wanted to try for the Modron!

Looks like most of them work but the 1st, but the alternate works for it.
thanks

I never liked the "official" genre names.
They're super generic.

For example:
- "Adventure" could mean almost ANY game with a story. O_o
It's hard to summarize a genre properly, but wouldn't "mystery solving" or "clue solving" make more sense, at least? (or something else).
- "Point&click" is meaningless by now, as the mouse is common elsewhere (RTS,RPG,puzzles, etc).
- also "FPS" isn't great.. Rail Shooters or Flight Simulators are "First Person Shooters" too, but they're not the same thing.
- "Action Adventure" is even more generic.
- etc..

The modern mix of genres, then, complicates everything.
