I got back into the hobby mid last year after a sports injury ended any sporting stuff for a year+. I've ended up just painting mostly, between 40k and Sigma (blood Bowl too) i've spent so many hours making and painting that it became a part of daily routine. Then i moved to Poland and left them all at home :*(

But yeah, i'm happy Games Workshop has become a lot more accessible to the masses.

PoppyAppletree: What did you collect?
Ork, Tau, Blood Ravens, Genestealer Cult, Nids, a few Knights, Grey Knights, Khrone, Nurgle and a few Imperial Guard here and there. As for Sigma i had mostly Dwarfs, Ork and a few other factions i'd use for parts and scenery.

Lucian_Galca: I have almost no experience with the Warhammer universe, but the recent gog releases of the games gives me a place to start. Quite interesting.
The lore is pretty damn dense, i wouldn't worry about it 'getting it' straight away. The best method i found was finding one faction/chapter or character and learning about them, they normally cross paths with each other and before you know it you have a pretty good understanding!

Lucian_Galca: Yeah, that was my first impression after just looking a bit on a WH wiki page lol.
It's errr quite scary so i get the initial caution. Honestly though, now more than ever, is a great time to get into Warhammer. Games Workshop has switched their approach in the last few years to make the hobby easier to get into. I don't like the Tau very much, but they have a cool civil warish storyline that has a good story and made them far more interesting. The lore is full of that kinda thing.

And if all else fails, screw it, make up your own lore for your own army!
Seems we're on the topic, here are a few bits i paint up late last year and early this year:

PoppyAppletree: Very nice! The Genestealer on the pipe is from Space Hulk, right? I really like your blending work. :)

The mouldline on that last 'Stealer's face is upsetting to me, though. Is that an older one?

EDIT: Oh, and what did you use for the blood drip effect on the Hive Tyrant?
Aye it's an olderish model.

Cheers!

The blood effect is made by mixing Uhu glue with a little paint of water and the paint you want to use. I used the Blood for the blood guard texture paint from GW, with a tiny bit of black to lower the colour. From there it's just a case on putting it onto the model and dragging it down. You can use the method for toxic waste, ice etc etc. It's super cheap too. Though i does stink

kharille: don't know why, somehow dow 3 didn’t appeal to me much and that was before I played it on a steam free weekend. Heard it crashed badly.
DOW3 felt more like a MOBA :(
Pretty sure we're getting new sisters this year? As for female Primaris...i don't like it due to lore, but it's not hard to make yourself. Just grab some bits from the new Necromundo sets or Sigma 2.0 heads
