So.... is it normal to feel incredibly melancholic, depressed and happy at the same time when playing and finishing Japanese visual novels with love stories?

Just the relationships in these stories are so perfect, the girls also are impossibly perfect (even their flaws are good). Makes me think I must have been missing out on something when I was playing Pokemon, watching WWE wrestling and using my computer during high-school.

Visual Novels, are simply, something else... Unfortunately, due to settings and locale, i myself am unable to play any, save for 1. And that one is more drama and tragic, less story of love. (Phantom of Inferno) Glad to see you enjoying your gaming session. And yes, girls there are really adorable. You put it in a great way. Still real ones are better. Even though you cannot save/load or use passwords...

Go to Control Panel > Region and Language > Administrative > Change system locale > Change it to Japanese

Your OS will still be all in English, but your computer will be able to recognize Japanese programs
Certain visual novels like Clannad are known to have that effect.
If it has a really good story yes -----> Katawa shoujo :P
I get that way when I watch the adaptations. Of course, I haven't gotten around to playing one quite as of yet...

Cool. I bought AIR recently, I'm half tempted to install it now. If only I could read Japanese now...
Thanks! Will try and see.
Visual novels are my favorite story-telling medium. They often have far more powerful atmosphere than books, and the pacing lets me take it in. Movies rarely appeal to me nowadays, simply because I can't process everything that is going on.
Why do you think people read romance novels about Mr. and Ms. Right? Because they portray real life relationships with the average guy or gal next door? ;)

Or use Locale Emulator to keep your regional settings as is, while still able to run programs in other locales.
Who are you and what did you do to our Crosmando?

That would be handy for me, actually. I don't like having parts of my system reading as Japanese, just in case technical weirdness pops up.
It's been 16 hours and I'm going to make the 'Penthouse Forum as visual romantic novel' reference before tinyE does?
I´m start to been curious about visual novels. Could anyone recomend free titles?

For starters, there's Recommended Visual Novels -thread where people recommends some commercial and free ones. :)
