Oddworld just got Stranger... in HD!

Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD, the remastered high-definition version of the bounty hunting shooter set in the colorful Oddworld, is available on GOG.com for only $9.99.

Where there's a frontier, there's always a person that arrives from nowhere on his way west, and while he's in town bullets are shot, bandits are captured, asses are kicked, and a justice is served. No one ever knows this person's name, so in all frontier towns on all planets in the multiverse, people refer to such a character simply the Stranger. Here's a story of one of them Strangers. The Stranger of Oddworld. The strangest Stranger of them all.

In Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD you become a gunslinging bounty hunter hell-bent on cleaning the Mongo River Valley from the criminal scum and claiming the bounties for the heads of them all. The game is full of Oddworld Inhabitants' signature humor and art-style. The world around you is teeming with peculiar life forms, insane mechanisms, and mind-blowing landmarks. Armed with his trusty double-barreled crossbow that shoots live ammunition (as in: small creatures), the Stranger will stop at nothing to collect his prize. Now you get to see it all in updated, high-definition graphics!

Are you in the market for some bizzaro-western action on a very alien planet? Don't wait--grab Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath HD, for only $9.99.

They are probably battling ninjas again
Nice to see that GOG didn't forget those that were waiting for the update.

As for me, I already have the Oddbox on Steam and still have to play 3 of the 4 games, so I'm not interested.

Licurg: Can people still download the non-HD version?

Ubivis: Just look into the goodies:
Stranger's Wrath (original game)
I wish GOG do the same for oldies (include original game to extras) ....

StingingVelvet: Own it on Steam but will repurchase in a sale for DRM free.
You are in luck. According to the official "DRM-free Steam games" GOG-list, it should be DRM-free also on Steam.

You can back up your installed files, but yeah, Steam's "DRM-free" still not really DRM-free, it's just as non-intrusive as any DRM can get.

The games in this list are DRM-Free. You can launch them even without steam running (you can't use the shortcut Steam creates, but if you just go the the game directory, you can launch the games executable which does not need to have steam running at all (and will not launch it itself)
But you can't install them without Steam, can you?

Depending on the game, a zipped file will do as installer, though it is possible that you may also need a few registry entries.
What are the minimum systems requirements for the original version?

My pc can't run the HD version, but if it can run the original I would love to add it to my colletion.
The first thing I thought when I saw this news item was: Oh great, the complete Oddboxx FINALLY on GOG, too, after all this time. Then I realized it's just an update to Stranger's Wrath and Munch's Oddyssee is still missing. Oh well. :D

I think the author of that list can help with any technical issues and questions, but I presume you first download (and hence, activate) the game once, after which you can move the files around and archive them, and use them without Steam DRM.

I'll probably get the game from GOG though, if and when the price is right. For guaranteed support (also regarding DRM-free), guaranteed Windows 8 compatibility etc. ;)

Maybe a little bit too off-topic, but my guess why Oddworld needed so long to release the drm-free version for the groupees bundle was they had some trouble with the drm. If the steam version is really drm-free I really would like to know for what problem they needed weeks to fix it. Was there also an steam-update lately or any known bigger problems?

I can't remember them exactly, in comparison to but it seems gog didn't changed them yet. My biggest problems with old version was the gpu and opengl. Maybe you want to check the [url=http://www.gog.com/forum/oddworld_series#1353936674]subforum to find some more details.
