I had a bit of a shooter backlog, but the way people were discussing Spec Ops persuaded me to grab it anyway. It is just mind blowing, I could not put it down.

As a modern shooter, it sometimes lacks a little of the gameplay polish of some of the big franchises, but the narrative and writing, enhanced by excellent use of video game mechanics elevate it way above them in my view.
Just finished the game yesterday, and I love it. The story is amazing and the gameplay I found it very solid. If you haven't played it yet, you should and the game is dirt cheap when on sale, I picked up mine for 2.70€ on GmG.

What I meant by gameplay is being forced to clear a room of 30 people and then moving on to the next one. I watched my brother play Mass Effect 2 and I might like being able to upgrade guns and build a character and shit like that but the cover and shooting part looked like something I wouldn't care for very much.

Rohan15: Best war shooter ever.
Yep, this.

Although, be warned that the main feature is the story and not the gameplay.
the gameplay is the same of a third person shooter, but the story, the narrative, the level of crazyness in some characters (seems they are way out from Apocalypse Now/Heart of Darkness) omfg was really awesome, really mature plot. Was a nice revelation for this year this game
I missed the sale on it on Amazon by like a day, still bugs me on that. The game does sound like a lot of fun/worth the buy. I just got to keep my eyes peeled for another sale.

It's appeared on sale a couple more times since the Amazon sale (I picked it up when it was bundled with Bioshock 1 and 2). Not quite as steep a discount sometimes, but this game is seriously worth full price. Any decent discount is a steal.
I just finished my second playthough today. I didn't really like the gameplay the first time, but it grew on me now. I'm even thinking about starting it on a harder difficulty.

Btw, I'm sure it'll go on sale during the holidays, it was discounted several times recently.

Vote for the series on the wishlist:

Spec Ops: Rangers Lead The Way + Ranger Team Bravo
Spec Ops II: Green Berets
Spec Ops: The Line
Based on the great feedback on this game from people here who's opinion's I respect and trust this is on my Steam wish list for now. I'm sure it'll be discounted in the upcoming Winter Holidays sale, hopefully by a good amount.
