It's funny it's adjusted to left, not center....

SimonG: Facebook is already doing this. Look how it works for them.
They actually forced me to change my fake name :-(

I changed it.... to another fake name.

This is what happens when Youtube hire Bethesda to do the UI.... disaster!
It seems like Google is taking away some of the functionality in favor of simpler, streamlined use. However, sometimes simpler is actually more cumbersome and requires more clicks to get what you want.

Personally, I'm getting a little tired of the "simpler streamlined" apple look on things. Its boring and very, very white bland and sterile.

I agree there is a certain level in the supposed simplicity of things. By that I mean, one can simplify things to the point of inflexibility. Clearly Google has done this to youtube, making it it take more work to get to where one wants to go.

This doesn't have to be a bad thing, but google really should allow users to customize things. Computing is a very personal thing, and how I compute is different from how others compute.

Oh God all that white space is sickening. Just watch, it's going to be used for nothing but shitty ads (too bad I have Adblock plus)

I also really hate how it goes to "what to watch" instead of my own subscriptions. I don't want to watch the crap it recommends I already have my subscriptions there. It also seems unfair for newer channels to get themselves set up because it seems to only choose the videos/channels with the highest views or subscribers.

And it really is disappointing that by the end of 2012 Youtube STILL doesn't let us chose the format we would like. They constantly change it just as we get used to the old one.
Eh, I just watch my videos at full screen and just use my page and subscriptions as a tv channel, don't care much about what's going on around that. I like the new holo-inspired playback/options bar. Android post 4.0 ICS is a beautiful looking OS, nice to see the design language seep a little into other areas of Google.

I agree. The "simplicity" is deceiving in a sense that it's simple if you want to do just a couple very basic things, but beyond that you have to dig in further. I agree with your description of "inflexibility", as that's what it feels like. Before you could really tailor your use to your own liking, but now it feels restricted.

Maybe we'll get used to it, who knows?
Another giant leap toward intrusion. Google really pushing it hard, continuously search for loopholes and way to enforce their intrusion without needing the user to accept any agreement.
