From what I've gathered only Windows Xp/Vista

I actually have a Windows 98 virtual machine that I had set up just for running older games so I decided to try this out. Unfortunately the games do not work, the installer doesn't even run. Looks like you'll need an XP/Vista box.
I had also tried just copying the game directories over and running the executable but that didn't work either.
What Windows user isn't using XP or Vista anyway, right?

Me. I'm using a dual-boot Linux and Windows 98.
My computer is to slow for XP.
So, anyone tried starting any of the games on Wine on a few-years-old machine?

Yup. The GOG installer doesn't balk WINE, and from there on it's just checking the AppDB to see what's supported.
And about the Windows versions: The games I've tried work on Win2k just fine, but I'm pretty sure that's as far back as you can go.
