I don't have a poor nor spotty internet connection, but every time I run the installer its download progress always goes to 3-4MB of 228MB, then stays there forever. I always have to force close the installer since it's somehow also eating processing power. Is this also a problem for other people or just me? How do I fix this? And is there any option for a standalone installer?

Same problem here. GOG also suddenly updates extremely slowly for the older version

Edit: For some reason it downloads faster when using my phone's LTE. wtf is this shit

Okay, so I tried using VPN to a US server, and surprise surprise, it finally downloads normally. Hopefully this can become a potential solution for others too.
well US cms are cheap to hire for a reason guys... once Facebook has finished looking at all the likes you can download the game :)
Jakarta, Indonesia. Normal low network downloading capability of about 1-2 Megabyte per second.

Same problem here. Twice tried to install, stuck at 2%. Until I followed a suggestion in this very forum topic subject to first put up a VPN for the United States. It works and no longer stuck at 2%, but still an awfully slow at that.

But hey, at least it's working now.

GOG, with respect, please perfect this.

UPDATE: five minutes later: YAY! It stuck at 8%!

Same thing for me (using Windows 10), but whenever I try to cancel the download, the installer stops responding.
The same thing is happening for me. I get stuck between 6-25 MB every time I try to download it.

I tried a VPN to the US. it doesn't work.
Yep, same here. Download stuck, cannot abort, difficult to kill the process as it respawns automatically. Yet another reason why GOG Galaxy 2.0 is currently the most useless piece of software - WIndows updates are perhaps almost as bad.
Same here. Is there the offline installer? First time trying GOG and stuck at installing the launcher :(
Right now for me the issue occurs in 1.2 and 2.0. I had to delete this piece of shit and download offline installers and run them with network disabled.

It's probably your computer having issue if you can't download and install any games.

I'm on Windows 10 pro 1909 and Gog galaxy 2.0.17 and no issues so far, I just downloaded "space pirate and zombies" without issues and 2 weeks ago I downloaded "desperados 3" and "outward" without problems.

Had to get Gog for a cheap Cyberpunk, wish id paid extra and used Steam... This worked cheers! VPN FTW
This is weird. I set up a VPN outside of the US and the download is working.....common GOG.
For me it stops at 0.1mb/s speed randomly (I don't think it even downloads something), only killing all gog processes helps. Although I have a particular setup, virt, bridge, vpn but anyway annoying issue
for anybody wondering just disable ipv6 and all is good with gog app
