LordFraggington: I'm in Win7 64bit, and I got it to work. I run the game (without admin) in Windows XP compatability, and it works fine (save annoying little bug that won't let me change the default hair and skin colors, as it will turn the selected area reflective silver). Its the only way to get past the splash logo screen that I and a few friends have discovered. Hope that helps!

Edit: There is supposed to be a video as you load the tutorial after creating a character, right? That I need to get to load, if anybody can help with either of those bugs.
where are you starting the program? shortcut? nwmain?

superfly2000: I'm not an expert but I would try a couple of things

(of which some already where mentioned)

1) Start the game with nwmain.exe instead

2) Run as administrator

3) You tried updating the game to version 1.69 right? (using the separate updater utility)

4) Did you install the critical rebuild patch?
http://nwn.bioware.com/support/patch.html

5) Find the ini file that controls what movies are played at the startup of the game and comment them out //

6) Run in windows XP compatbility mode (in worst case)
im sorry, how do i update the game to said version?

I tried the updater and my game version is already 1.69, trying to run the rebuild now.

When you start the game up you get this starting screen. On that screen you can see a button called "update".

See the screenshot that I enclosed.

If that, for some reason, doesn't work you should download and install the critical rebuild patch instead.

(Actually..you could just install the critical rebuild patch right away. It is probably the safest way to get the game all the files it needs....)

Edit: Yeah..be sure to get the right version.

It is 1.69 and Hordes of the underdark (that is the latest version of NWN).

just tried it, still nothing =\

i'll try an uninstall and update again
The download from GOG comes with the latest patch, which is why it (the update system) doesn't work if you "patch." The module re-installer is an option if those files are corrupted, but seeing as they are already installed (and checked for file integrity), it should be a non-issue.

yeah i dont know what else to try =\
Without system specs, some general things :

- make sure directx 9.0c is installed

- ATI 5870 cards may cause problems with NWN, as can Catalyst 10.2 drivers.

- add nwnmain.exe and nwloader.exe to the Data Execution Prevention exclusion list

- if running an ATI card, try disabling Catalyst control Center

- if running SLI or crossfire, disable secondary card(s)

Nevermind. I was asking about your silver skin issue, but I've found the solution here:

Shoecrown: After an extensive search, you're the only person so far that I've come across with this same problem of being unable to change my character's skin color or clothing.

Also, I'm running on Windows 7 64-bit with an NVidia GeForce 9800 GTX+.

I'd really like to play, but this one aesthetic issue is totally ruining the game for me. Have you found any solution to the problem yet?
Sorry Shoecrown, I'm still looking and tweaking, but I promise I'll post ASAP since. as I said, this came out and I convienced a few friends to buy it, and we all have that problem, and luckily are at a tech college, so this won't be too long...I hope :). Then again, telling them not to play....That hasn't worked so well lol.

Then again, I DID have a similar issue in Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory where all my guns and items were silver (and the rest of the maps were incomprehensible visual gibberish), so I am cuirous as to whether or not it's the 3D used in the the game, as certain things like OpenGPL I heard weren't supported in Vista and 7 (this is only what I've heard, plus I have no idea what the used to create NVN).
Ok so far there seems to be no way of getting it to run on my main PC, I did get it to load on my other computer but when I try to bypass the intro videos it crashes, I think i've had this issue before (a long time ago) and i think it has an easy fix right?
I don't know. All I can think of is:

1) Install critical rebuild patch
Direct link for windows users (skip step 1 and go directly to step 2)
http://nwn.bioware.com/support/patch_english_hotu.html

2) Run as admin.

3) Use the nwmain.exe instead

4) Set safemovie paramete to 1 in one of the ini files (saw this in another thread)

5) In worst case try to run in XP compatibility mode.

As someone pointed out using the updater wont help much as the game from GOG is supposed to be in the latest version already (1.69).

I am very sure the critical rebuild patch will help most of thoose who have problems. That makes sure you really got all the files the game needs.

is the safemovie change supposed to help the game not crash once the intro movies start?
SafeMovie was originally intended to be used if you had slow movie playback under older operating systems, but could introduce problems where the sound plays but the movies visuals do not. For certain resolutions (widescreen ratios I believe), the movies do not work at all and require the use of the SafeMovie setting to get past them.

jimi_hendrix: I just installed the game (Win7, 64bit), and the game won't run. I click play, and then it gets to the splash screen and crashes. What can I do?
Hi

This is a long-shot, but there were a lot of funky problems with the 780G chipset (Radeon 3200), to which the 790 (Radeon 3300) was an upgrade. Here is a thread that lists some fixes:

http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=279&threadid=99753&STARTPAGE=1&FTVAR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear

I think many problems (other than the stuttering that is discussed) were solved by simply disabling dual monitors, regardless of whether or not dual monitors were actually present.
