I have a question here for the board. What (if any) is the maximum number of classes (including prestige classes) that my character can have.

FYI: I downloaded the NWN Diamond Edition here. In addition I downloaded and installed the PRC add on which seems to add about 100 different class and race opotions. I have tried finding this answer and I seem to be getting different results. Is the total number 3? 4? Does this include prestige classes as well?

I want to know this stuff before I start my character as I enjoy planning his advancement ahead of time. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Maximum number of classes in NWN is 3, including prestige classes.

NWN 2 lifted this to 4.

As has been mentioned the max number of classes is 3. You should also keep in mind that multiclassing can incur experience penalties if you don't plan things right. If you multiclass and the class levels are more than 1 lvl apart then a 20% experience penalty is incurred (40% if you have three classes, with all of them being more than 1 lvl apart). This can be offset through choosing racially favored classes, which do not count towards the XP penalty. Additionally, prestige classes do not count towards this penalty under any conditions (so a character with their starting class and two prestige classes won't have to worry about an XP penalty). A more detailed explanation can be found here.
