Hi all.

I write because I have a terrible problem with NWN2. I have both, physical and GoG version. Both of them have the same problem: I start the game, it launches properly, the game loads the module and everything but, as soon as I walk two steps, the pc reboots.

I have tried everything and I resist to believe it is a lack of hardware capacity. I have an Intel i5 7600k, a 1060 gtx Nvidia graphic card, 2 HDD disks SATA III and one SDD SATA III (on which the game is installed), 700 watts power supply and enough refrigeration. On my previous pc, with an Intel core quad core 3,00 GHz and 1 GB graphic card it ran smoothly.

Any idea what is going on?

Hugs!

SOLVED: The problem was my PSU to be defective.

Have you installed DirectX 9.0c ?
Go here https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109
If your running later than Windows 7, don't use web setup.
Download the runtimes to a temporary folder on your desktop & run DXSETUP.exe
Once it says installation complete (see pic) you can delete the folder from your desktop.

Hey,

I have recently came back to this game with my friends. I installed the DirectX 9.0c and it still keeps restarting. I have checked my laptop, it works on it but it heats too much. The only difference between both pc's is that my desk pc has an i5 7600K and a GTX 1060 and the laptop has an i5 8300H and a GTX 1050. Also, the desk pc has a windows 10 pro and the laptop a regular windows 10, I suppose.

What can I do? I play for 10 seconds and the pc restarts. Other games run on 4k, even Star Citizen.

Thank you. I am desperated.
Your laptop getting too hot.
Have you got V-sync enabled in the graphics options?
This game gets ridiculous FPS on modern hardware without v_sync, and makes the graphics card hot.
I'm desperate dan!
Hello,

I activated the V-Sync and the game run for a while, then it restarted the PC again. I also limited the FPS to 58 from the nVidia Panel for this specific program.

Could it be that I lack of older drivers than those I have now since the game is so old?

Thank you very much.
My guess is that you're actually bluescreening. But since some dude at Microsoft had the bright idea that people dislike bluescreens so the solution is to hide them by immediatly rebooting.

Check %SystemRoot%\Minidump. That should at least give you some idea about what the problem is.

Also: are you using Win7 or Win10?
Hi there,

I am using Windows 10 pro.

The other day I found a bunch of old drivers that I installed. All of them. I could play the whole day without any problem. Notwithstanding, next day, it restarted again, as before. Is it meaningful?

What do I need to read the %SystemRoot%\Minidump ?

Thank you!
I guess Windows noticed you're using outdated drivers and helpfully updated them. Isn't Windows awesome?
This is meaningful because you can now rule out faulty hardware. Also, there is a way to tell windows not to auto-update a specific driver, but for that you need to figure out which driver is the problem, so the rest of the investigation is still relevant.

Anyway, since you are using Windows 10 the first and easy step is to disable the automatic reboot on a bluescreen.

Go to Control Panel --> System --> Advanced system settings (on the right side under Related settings) --> Avdanced --> Startup and Recovery (Settings ...) --> uncheck Automatically restart under System failure
(sorry, no idea how these things are named in spanish)

Now you should get BlueScreens (yay!). On Win10 the only valuable info left is the Stop code. If you're lucky that will already give you enough info.

Sorry forgot about describing how to actually read the minidumps in my first post.
Easiest way I found is with BlueScreenView. (https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/blue_screen_view.html)
The site also gives you some info on how to use it.
But in short: The red entries on the lower view are the interesting ones. The Filename along with the File Description should tell you which driver is crashing.
Good news everyone!!!

It turns out that the problem was the Physx setting. In Nvidia panel, 3D setting, set Surround,PhysX you can choos the processor. I always chose the GPU to be the processor. I have changed it to automatic and now it runs smooth smooth.

Apparently, when I chose GPU to be the assigned processor, the CPU overloaded and the GPU overlocked beyond its limits.

I also disconnected MSI Kombustor, so it does not reports about activity of the GPU anymore.

So, it is solved.

To all of you who spent their time writting in this topic, from the bottom of my heart, thank you :D

Have a nice weekend!!

Thanks for letting us know.
Bad news everyone!!

So the problem was considerably fixed until a week ago it happened again. I tried to deactivate the shadows and it also happened. I thought it could be a driver malfunction, so I erased all my hard drives and reinstalled everything from the begginning.

I can tell it happens again, quite less if I specifically set some configuration from Nvidia Panel* such as:

Max FPS: 58.
V-Sync: yes
Tripple buffer: Yes
Energy control mode: Max performance required.
Low latency mode: yes.

*Also, I have to keep the Physics processor as I said in previous posts.

English translation is approximated. I have everything on Spanish.

I ran a test on performance, potency and 3D. Everything was correct with no reboots.

It is now something which happens without a pattern from time to time, but I am starting to get pissed off about it.

Also, I deactivated the automatic reboot and reproduced the error. Nothing appeared. It went from game, to black and then starting sequence.

Any idea?

Thank you everyone.

It's where I go when I run into problems.
Good news everyone!!

The problem was my PSU. I bought a new one and now it runs perfectly.

Thank you everyone for your attention :D
