Has anyone got the original NWN to work with the Steam Controller? When I add it to Steam, it shows up as "Neverwinter Nights (Safe Mode)". When I start the game, I get no input from the controller whatsoever. I've heard tell that Steam Controller doesn't work with really old games so maybe that's the case here?

So, how does the game play with the Steam controller? Is it playable and do the controls feel good?

I still can't get it to work. Starting in Admin mode at least makes the controller kinda work - input is working at least. But I still can't access the Steam Overlay. Any ideas?

I can't figure out how to get Steam Overlay to work with the game, either. Unfortunately, this limits a bit of the functionality of the controller, such as being able to bring up the Steam keyboard in-game to type with the controller.

However, I managed to make a beginner's configuration for the game without Steam Overlay. The controller still works fine, but there is important information you'll need to know before diving in. But this profile is pretty much 99% game-ready minus the physical typing of letters and words for saving games or naming your character in character creation.

I'd suggest unmarking this thread as solved, then. I don't have the Steam controller yet, and, sadly, it might be a few more months before I do. The only thing I can think of is that you should try contacting Steam support. Someone there might be able to help you.

This is not his/her thread. Even if it was, you can't change it once you mark a thread as solved.

Running the nwnmain.exe as admin as well as Steam in admin got the controller working perfectly for me. Not the Steam Overlay, though. That's unfortunate because you have to exit the game to make configuration changes tot he controller and like I said earlier, you can't use the keyboard function.

If someone can figure out how to get the Steam Overlay to work in the game, the game would be 100% playable with no mouse or keyboard whatsoever. As I said, my profile makes it about 99% playable but you'll need some form of input device to type in your character's name at character creation or when saving your game.

Thanks for the vid and the links! However, having to edit the controls outside of the game makes this a nonviable solution for my needs. As a constant control tweaker with all of my games, having to do that is simply maddening.

I'm still trying different one-off compatibility hacks to see if that makes a difference. I've heard others have seen this before with different games, but this is the first time I've ever been unable to get the overlay to work with a game. Hmmm...
