I recently bought this game as part of the current D&D promo. After managing to get past the error where the game crashes during the opening cutscenes, I'm now having an issue where changing the resolution is not taking effect. My laptop resolution is 1024 x 768, but when I set it to that and start the game, there is still a black border on both sides of the screen. I've tried changing it to higher resolutions to see if this would solve the problem but to no avail. Is this a common issue or is it just me? Thanks!

This sounds like it might be a laptop issue. Do you have a full screen function button? (a lot of times Fn+ an F# key)

Try cycling through video out and screen, too.

If that doesn't work, try a lower resolution (like 800x600).

If that's not working, try to ALT+TAB out of the game and then back into to.

Alternatively, you could try to run it in Window mode with a resolution the same as your desktop.

To do that, edit your nwn.ini.
Change FullScreen=1 to Fullscreen=0
and add the line
AllowWindowedMode=1

Make sure you set your X and Y values in the .ini file too.

Let me know if any of that helps.
The first few suggestions you had didn't work for me but after I changed the .ini file and changed the resolution again within game, it managed to fill the screen. It's still kind of weird though because 1024x768 wouldn't fill it even though that is my monitor's resolution so I had to change it to 1200 by 800. Thanks.
That is weird. I'm glad it's working, though! Enjoy the game!

P.S. You might get better performance if you turn off window mode and do full screen at 1200 x 800.
Just want to mention that I also had to deal with this screen scaling issue, and found this:

Control Panel -> NVIDIA Control Panel -> Display -> Adjust desktop size and position:
A) (bad) Change 'perform scaling on' from GPU to Display
or
B) (good) Enable '[ ] Override the scaling mode set by games and programs'

The game probably does something stupid while switching resolutions, and either of the two works around the bug.
